Both instruments have some infrequent complaints about the need to blow harder and create more air pressure It’s important to note that while the saxophone family shares some similarities with other woodwind instruments, its construction and key system differ. Saxophones are made of brass, have a single reed mouthpiece, and use a conical bore instead of a cylindrical one like other woodwinds. Now, let’s meet the English horn, which is related to the oboe but has a larger size and lower pitch range. Like the oboe, it uses a double reed mechanism to create sound. Due to its lower register, the English horn has a mournful and soulful character. It often plays poignant solos or harmonizes with other woodwind instruments in orchestral compositions.

The bassoon has a relatively low pitch, though not as low as its big brother, the contrabassoon which is significantly larger.This large community of keyboard players creates a " pluggable community" (as explained by Morreale et al. [9]), from which users can transfer their existing skill set of playing a keyboard to the KeyWI.

The design of the bassoon is a little unusual, originating from the Curtal, an early musical instrument.Finally, because the instrument is so closely modelled after a saxophone, it would seem that players of oboes, bassoons, clarinets, and flutes would have a harder time adjusting to it than an EWI or WX. The auxiliary keys follow the sax model a little too well; unlike on a WX, where any of the sharp keys raise the pitch of any note you’re playing, the Aerophone’s chromatic keys only work with certain notes. There are also a bunch of “altissimo” key combinations that seem rather arbitrary and that only sax players would be comfortable using. If that’s the only market Roland is interested in, that’s okay, but we can imagine plenty of other orchestral players who could benefit from this instrument but would have trouble with it. The KeyWI aims to improve upon several limitations in current systems and provide an accessible platform for more expressive, realistic, and musical instruments. It combines the power and versatility of Faust and the Bela Mini, a control system based on a piano keyboard rather than a wind instrument, and a custom PCB and enclosure for a fully integrated, digitally manufactured design.
