Description

Born into a large family in Napoli, Gino's love of cooking developed from a young age when he was taught to cook by his mother and, at the age of 11, started working at his grandfather's restaurant.

Celebrating the amazing women in all these families, Gino D'Acampo delivers 80 delicious Italian recipes inspired by the women in his life in his new book Gino's Italy. With recipes including Pasta all Genovese, Steak Fiorentine and Tortellini Gino will have his work cut out to keep up with the women running the kitchens which he visits. In the clip below, Gino is in his hometown of Torre Del Greco and is reunited with some of the women who helped to raise him and inspired him to cook. But then it’s time to get busy, and Gino takes on the role of sous chef as his aunts take control of the kitchen and rustle up his favourite dish, Pasta alla Genovese. He kicks off in Gino’s birthplace, Torre del Greco, where a Gino was taught to cook by his late Nonna Flora and Mamma Alba.

The series will be accompanied by a standalone cookbook, Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used to Make, published by Bloomsbury. Waited for four months to get it, got it this week gave it as a gift to my husband, who loves to cook and has already enjoyed three amazing dinners! In a personal food odyssey, Gino will be travelling the length and breadth of Italy to encounter local dishes from families and their matriarchs along the way. After training at the Luigi de Medici Catering college, Gino came to work in London and was soon discovered as a TV talent. Drawing on the wisdom of his late mother, his fifteen bossy aunties, and a whole nation of home-cooking nonnas, Gino shares the secrets to making the very best version of much-loved Italian classics. The dessert section is a bit small and a bit too fancy for me but there are lots of nice recipes in different categories. Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used To Make begins with Gino re-uniting with his aunts Lina and Rita and niece Martina, and Gino’s suitably embarrassed when they pull out family photos albums full of a naked baby Gino! Cooking for Phillip [Schofield] and Holly [Willoughby] is one of my favourite things to do and I consider them friends.

Recent and current series include multi-award-winning The Undateables for Channel 4; Wheeler Dealers: Dream Car for Discovery and Jimmy Doherty’s Dream Builds on Wheels for Discovery Quest; Joey Essex: Grief and Me for BBC Three; Magnolia’s Emmy-nominated For the Love of Kitchens, and forthcoming Canard co-production Fred’s Last Resort for E4. Known for his authentic recipes and cheeky personality, and with a string of restaurants across the country to his name, Gino has risen through the ranks to become Britain's best-loved Italian chef.

It has 246 pages of recipes, family pictures of Gino and his family/ up-bring and each recipe comes with a big colorful picture. With over 80 recipes for the ultimate Italian classics, ranging from quick weeknight meals to classic blowouts, this is Gino's most iconic book yet. Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used to Make was commissioned for ITV by Nicola Lloyd, Factual Entertainment commissioner and Sue Murphy, Head of Factual Entertainment.
