Description

I was a bit scared when we found out we were having a baby, obviously happy, but a bit scared and in the beginning I was a bit clueless. The DadPad® - An essential guide for new dads, supporting new families in working together for their babies.

Young dads find it difficult to ask for help, particularly where their partners can become expert in the practicalities quite quickly and they don’t. The DadPad gives support to new fathers who can often feel left out and unable to help when they’re needed most, and this can put a strain on both parents. All texts will be responded to by a public health nurse (health visitor/school nurse) within 24 hours. The Dadpad® gives dads-to-be the knowledge and practical skills necessary to support themselves and their partner, so that babies get the best possible start in life.

This will help us to ensure it’s a helpful resource, inform any changes and keep it up-to-date with what's important to local dads. This easy-to-use resource for new dads and dads-to-be will give you the practical skills and knowledge you need to create a special bond with your baby and give them the best start in life. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens.

It is packed with relevant information, as well as details on local support groups and service providers. Having chosen to invest in including and engaging with dads-to-be, and wanting to encourage new dads to get involved and come forward with questions and issues they have throughout their partner’s pregnancy and beyond, the DadPad App is free to you. Kate Cox, Head of Universal Services at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are committed to continually improving the maternity experience for families in Stoke-on-Trent so that every child gets the best start in life, so we are delighted to support this fantastic new resource. The DadPad app is packed with information to give new fathers guidance on how to develop the confidence and practical skills needed to help look after their babies’ physical and emotional needs. If your area doesn’t have a button, let us know and we’ll make contact with those who can make it happen! DadPad is designed to reduce anxiety in a number of ways, for example, by helping dads gain confidence by getting involved with their baby’s care, as well as learning how to create a strong bond and build stronger family relationships. DadPad is packed with information to give new fathers guidance on how to develop the confidence and practical skills needed to help look after their babies’ physical and emotional needs. Cllr Dave Evans, cabinet member for children and young people said: “As a city council, our aim is to provide the best start in life for all children in the city and the DadPad can help with this.

Emotional health and wellbeing issues can arise during pregnancy and in the period following the birth of a baby in both mum and dad. Crucially, the app provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when needed) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles. As babies don’t come with a set of instructions, they told us they wanted important information on how to care for their baby and what to expect as a first-time dad. The DadPad app is an evidence based app accessible to all fathers living in Solihull and is FREE of charge. We listened to what dads, their partners and professionals asked for and combined it all in this new ‘DadPad’.

As new UK NHS Trusts or relevant Health Authorities adopt the DadPad® App, more locations will appear, as will new up-to-date information and features such as explanatory animations and videos. The Dad Pad - covering all the essential information dads told us they need to know and presented in a step-by-step, manual style so it’s easy to follow and understand. Please include what you were doing when this page occurred and the event ID found at the bottom of the page.Rowena added: 'Alongside the DadPad app there is a hard copy DadPad Neonatal book that will support dads when their baby is admitted, planned or unplanned, to the neonatal unit. it provides information and support to new dads as they adjust to their role and provides guidance on how they can get the most out of this new experience.
