John Pigeon (journalist, Let It Rock ): Townshend was clearly taking his role as rhythm guitarist seriously, not just strumming along, but punctuating the music the way only he does. The Band Du Lac was initiated in the late eighties by Gary Brooker to be an occasional assembly of talent used for charity gigs in England.

A couple snippets of rehearsal footage are shown, which only makes one wish they had actually thrown in a bit more of that. The cure itself was a combination of things… the acupuncture and the determination to get through it. This concert brings together a group of rock legends under the musical direction of Procol Harum's Gary Brooker to perform many of their best loved tracks. The core of the band on this recording includes Gary Brooker, Phil Collins, Howard Jones, Mike Rutherford, Henry Spinetti, Sam Brown, Andy Fairweather Low, and Mel Collins. Most of the key performers chime in with their two cents about what a great cause it is and how much fun they've had preparing.

Starr can do this stuffin his sleep, as "With a Little Help From My Friends" and "Photograph" find their way into every All-Starr tour he's undertaken in the past twenty years. A Concert By the Lake is a relatively unassuming title for a live concert featuring the likes of Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Procol Harum founder Gary Brooker, and other noteworthy artists.A third of the way through the show, Clapton switched things up for a series of acoustic numbers, including “Tears in Heaven” and “Layla.

Clapton performed “Lead Me to the Water” -- the title track from Brooker’s 1982 solo album -- while a picture of the deceased rocker was shown on stage. Pattie Boyd: I was sitting in the audience with George, Ringo, Elton John, Joe Cocker and Jimmy Page. The second is in “Turn It On Again” with “Everybody Needs Somebody” (credited to both Solomon Burke and The Blues Brothers), “Satisfaction” and “Midnight Hour”. But had he not become a solo star in the Eighties, giving his Genesis bandmate Mike Rutherford the time and incentive to launch the side project Mike and the Mechanics, the song would not exist. By the time we reached the end of the set with Key To The Highway and Crossroads, no one had any doubts: Eric was back. In the second half Collins adds some fun with “You Can’t Hurry Love” and Brooker leads the band through “A Salty Dog”, a song which I’m sure Giorgio Moroder plagiarized for “Tony’s Theme” from the Scarface soundtrack.

Ronnie Wood: He showed up, played, and after that, he and Alice just shut the door again and stayed smacked out. Known as Band du Lac, this stunning supergroup amassed at the historic Wintershall Estate in Surrey, England to play a benefit concert for HASTE – the Heart and Stroke Trust Endeavour. Nevertheless, the embattled guitarist said his protest songs helped him to feel " socially involved"again and lit a fire in him that had been "dormant" for a long time.

His semi-anonymous supergroup Derek And The Dominos had been largely ignored by the public – their signature song Layla, a thinly disguised wail of anguish inspired by Clapton’s unrequited love for model Pattie Boyd, wife of his friend George Harrison, had failed to chart. From there, Clapton rattled off some more familiar tunes, including renditions of the Wailers “I Shot the Sheriff” and Cream’s “White Room. Rutherford had made incredible music with four singers whose names start with the letter P (Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Paul Young, and Paul Carrack) and now three of them had quit his bands and the fourth was dead. The latest appearance was last year in aid of HASTE (Heart And Stroke Trust Endeavour) and released on DVD as One Night Only . He has interviewed three of the four Beatles, all of Abba and been nursed through a bad attack of food poisoning on a tour bus in South America by Robert Smith of The Cure.
