But um, Ian said I need to work on being taller. - ( The Squeakquel) In the CGI/live-action films, Alvin is also depicted as having the ability to speak basic French unlike in both the 1980's animated series and The Alvin Show in which he is shown to be unable to speak French in "Petit Papa Noel" from A Very Merry Chipmunk, and he is shown to wish he could speak French in The Alvin Show musical segment " I Wish I Could Speak French." Ian Hawke's redemption when he lets go of his old grudge against Dave, the Chipmunks and the Chipettes by explaining to Zoe that revenge is not the solution, also preventing her from pushing Dave into the void at the same time. In the CGI films, Eleanor has green eyes. She also has yellow fur and ponytail pigtails. In Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Eleanor wears a dark green sweater over a lime green dress and a silver sparkle dress. Alvin can be impulsive which people, especially Dave, find bothersome. At times, Alvin's determination can be viewed as nuts. As a result of his constant habit of reacting to opportunity, Alvin has gotten his brothers and himself in trouble at times such as the balloon race in The Chipmunk Adventure and a large number of episodes. Ian Hawke is the main antagonist of the Alvin and the Chipmunks film series. He is Dave Seville's best friend and temporary enemy and Alvin Seville's former arch-nemesis. Alvin: Please, Dave! I need a little culture in my life! The Eiffel Tower, the Sistine Chapel, the Louvre in Rome! - ( The Chipmunk Adventure)Alvin, the shortest of the Chipmunk brothers, is always scheming, whether it be because he wants to get out of chores ( Overworked Alvin) or is just trying to find a place to relax ( Alvin's Cruise). Alvin has much musical talent through singing and playing of his harmonica. He loves his harmonica and will play it any time he can, even if it ends up messing up the song (" Alvin's Harmonica"). Alvin has trouble grasping other languages or their cultures but enjoys traveling the world anyway (" I Wish I Could Speak French", " Comin' Thru' the Rye"). Like Simon, Alvin is very protective of Theodore as shown in Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman where he saved Theodore from Nathan, the school bully for example. However the relationship between Alvin and Theodore is not always plain sailing despite them closer than at first glance. Alvin usually enjoys teasing and sometimes pushing Theodore around which upsets Theodore, which Alvin doesn’t always realize. He also drags Theodore into his schemes. Despite all of this, Alvin can have a soft spot especially when Theodore is scared or upset. Alvin and Brittany have an odd relationship since they're both very stubborn and sassy, however Brittany is shown to be more nicer and kinder than Alvin. They are constantly at odds with one another and get into heated arguments, sometimes scuffles. Deep down they love each other and would protect each other or they team up to save their other siblings. They are shown in the future as married with twin boys. Alvin: We edit the tape together, play it for Miss Miller, and we're on our way around the world! - ( The Chipmunk Adventure) Alvin retains some of the traits he possessed from the 80s, such as his desire for fun, and charm as seen in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel where he manages to capture the attention of a group of girls using his cute looks and as well as the French language (e.g. he called Becca Mademoiselle after kissing her finger). Nevertheless, he has difficulty at showing affection toward Dave such as in the first film, Alvin and the Chipmunks, where he struggles at telling Dave that he loves him as a father, but less so with his brothers such as the time Alvin tried to kiss Simon to cheer him up in the second film. In the third film, when all of the Chipmunks are stranded on the island, Alvin slowly becomes the mature one, as seen when he yells at Simon (who had a change in personality due to getting bitten by a spider), only for Brittany to tell him he's starting to sound like Dave - much to his horror ("Nooooooooo!") and builds the boys' treehouse by himself.

In The Chipmunk Adventure, Like Brittany and Jeanette, Eleanor wears a very-revealing green genie attire. James Suggs is the new main antagonist of Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Suggs is similar to Ian, but he has bigger plans than Ian.Alvin is the oldest of the Chipmunks as revealed in the episode Grounded Chipmunk after making the statement, " I've never been alone, except those five minutes before Simon was born." However in the 2015 series he is the middle child. In Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, she wears a same striped shirt as she wore in the third film with a new, similar-looking skirt with dark green and lime green dots. Eleanor is the only main character chipmunk to not have her name in a title of an episode of any series to date. Eleanor always stands up to Brittany when she tries to force Jeanette into certain things Jeanette doesn’t like, and always defends her when anyone says something negative. For example, refusing to help Brittany join a group that called Jeanette a 'nerd'. During the 2000-era, Alvin was, and is, known as the self-appointed "leader" of the group. And, presumably meaning The Alvin Show, he suffered from small "munk" complex and tried to make up for it with his grand schemes and animal magnetism.

Since college, Ian was Dave's roommate. However, he is no longer roommates with him, but is instead his "best friend" (but not a true one). This eventually led to Dave and Ian's bitter rivalry, thus breaking their friendship. However, in the third film, he starts off as Dave's rival, and later reforms and somehow becomes friends again with Dave, the Chipmunks, and the Chipettes.

Alvin and the others tie a kite to Dave's chair, but the kite gets out of control and pulls the chair overboard. Dave runs to a paraglider, but Hawke refuses to let Dave cut in the line waiting to use it. After a brief struggle, the two end up falling off the boat as well. Stranded on the ocean, a now-reformed Ian spots an island the two float there. Although they initially cannot get along or agree on a plan, Ian does, in a way, re-kindle his relationship with Alvin and his brothers, along with Dave and the Chipettes by helping Dave rescue the chipmunks and the Chipettes. In ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks, Alvin wears a red and blue-hooded sweater with his signature yellow "A" on it, which has a hole in the left sleeve, blue jeans, and red/orange/white converse sneakers. Alvin regains his signature red cap as a common accessory, but it now has green beneath the visor and red-orange on the top-visor. He has auburn hair and blue eyes. His pajamas consist of a t-shirt with a winged guitar illustration.
