In Sticky McStickStickhe manages to tell the honest story of what happened to him accessibly for children, using his trademark directness and sense of humour. I loved the inventors' world built in this, I loved the isolated lighthouse island setting, I loved the kooky inventions, but most of all I really liked Leonora.

This important non-fiction book explores the concept of racism for a young audience, explaining what it is and why it is always wrong. Everything changes one day when a strange boy washes up on an inflatable lobster and reveals that Uncle Luther has been stealing her inventions and selling them on the mainland. Her fantastical inventions are such fun, and I love how she recycles things to create them too, a fab message for readers. Nadia Shireen’s first illustrated middle grade novel is a brilliantly hilarious and heartwarming tale, full of her trademark anarchic humour.

We’ve re-named Puffin Virtually Live so that it’s easier for new teachers to discover it as part of Puffin Schools and to acknowledge that the show now premieres on show day, rather than being streamed live. The imaginative Dreamscape setting, short chapters and lively black-and-white illustrations make it an engaging tale which celebrates individualism and promotes emotional wellbeing. Leonora is smart, resourceful and very relatable main character - and a tech-y genius, which is always a plus (more Girl-In-STEM please! Leonora waded through the sea of cables to her desk and grabbed a bottle of special formula hair oil. Leonora was brave and I loved how she faced challenges head on, I liked her relationship with Millie the cook and how she made friends easily.

She is desperate to escape the island and is working on a new gadget, the Switcheroo, which she hopes will transport her to the mainland. Fox siblings Ted and Nancy live in the big city but decide to find Grimwood, a faraway forest where they can lie low. Entertaining black-and-white illustrations are scattered throughout the short chapters, making it ideal for young junior readers.
