Description

Using a formula pitcher lets you mix a larger batch of formula, up to 24 hours in advance, which you can pour into a bottle in the middle of the night. It saves time, and keeps your baby from getting wrongly mixed formula when you’re too tired to think straight. When you’re ready to bottle or pitcher prep, wash your hands and prep your bottles, nipples, and your pitcher, if using one, to be sure they are clean and sterile. 3 Mixing the baby formula This revolutionary technique involves gathering all your precious milk in one place - a big, beautiful pitcher. If you’re mixing a single bottle, make sure to shake it long enough to avoid clumps. Always pay attention to the ratio of formula to water A correct formula to water ratio is so important. Over-concentrated and diluted formula can both cause major health problems for your baby.

Clumps in your baby’s formula usually occur from rushed formula preparation. You’re in such a rush to get a bottle prepared for your hungry baby that you don’t mix the formula and water properly. Halfway through the feed, the nipple gets clogged with a clump, and you have to interrupt feeding time to fix it or attach a new nipple. I pump and combine for 3 days then freeze in 3oz increments. I have the Dr. Browns pitcher and it makes it 1000x easier to pour and measure. I just pump and pour into the container.” So in my fridge at all times, I had all the bottles for the day and a pitcher being filled with milk for the next day (plus the bottles from my most recent pump that were also in the fridge cooling down, waiting to be added to the pitcher). NEVER combine different temperature milk. Talk about crying over spilled milk! One clumsy moment could result in a spill disaster, robbing you of your hard-earned liquid gold. But at least you can do it all in one fell swoop, without having to rummage through your fridge like a mad scientist. So, grab this pitcher, pour in that liquid gold, and take a well-deserved break from the bottle juggling madness. There are times where the ease and safety of preparing formula in advance make it a winning choice. If your baby is going to stay with a friend or relative who doesn’t know how to mix formula, you’ll probably feel better doing it yourself in advance. If you are worried you might make a mixing mistake in the middle of the night when you’re tired, it might make more sense to get that formula ready when you’re wide awake and store it in the fridge for later. If you’re working from home and just want the convenience of ready made, this once a day mixing is so much easier than once every few hours. I did the pitcher method and it was SO helpful. I bought 2 pitchers, and essentially whatever I pumped that day was the next day’s milk. So I pumped, put caps on the bottles that I pumped into and just popped those into the fridge to cool down to fridge temperature. Then whenever I had a a minute and the bottles were cool, I would just swirl them and then dump them into the pitcher. At the end of the day, I would fill up all of the next days bottles and leave them in the fridge. So all of the bottles for the next day were made and waiting in the fridge. Then I would put an leftover milk from the pitcher into freezer bags and then wash the pitcher. Since I was filling up the pitchers a day ahead, this always worked really easily. So, to make it more clear, at the end of each day, in the fridge I had all of the baby bottles filled for the next day and an empty and cleaned pitcher ready to fill up throughout the next day. This was easiest for me because I could do all of the bottle filling and pitcher cleaning after the baby went down to sleep, and had all the bottles done for the next day and a clean pitcher ready to go before going to sleep myself.
