Fishron Wings work in liquids, just as they do on land (including lava and honey), with the same speed, unlike other wings. This makes them very useful for more aquatic characters. On old-gen console and mobile, Red's Wings and some other developer wings can be obtained through inventory editing. This item has the second highest rarity in the game with Mini Mammoth Leash having the highest rarity. When one wing type is placed in a social slot and the other in an accessory slot, the full animation of the vanity wings are shown, along with any lighting and particle effects. Flight speed and other functional characteristics follow those in the accessory slot. Prior to 1.3.0.1 , Red's Wings would allow the wearer to fly infinitely and faster than any other wings if the player managed to obtain them through inventory editors.

The fall-damage-negating effect is carried over even if the wings are placed in the sixth accessory slot in an expert world and then switched to a normal world. However, like all other accessories, wings, once removed from the sixth slot in a normal world, can only be equipped again in that slot in an expert world. Maximum flight distance of about 1400 tiles can be achieved using the Bundle of Balloons, Frog Leg, Solar Wings, Frostspark Boots, Flying Carpet, and Featherfall Potion. More can be achieved by using the Umbrella in addition.
