Description

Dara’s arc is one of redemption and it was, quite unbelievably, my favourite. It is grim! Oh baby, it is dark, that poor son of a bitch! He is struggling with the aftermath of Manizeh’s campaign of genocide against the Geziri people of Daevabad. He is seeing a change in Manizeh and finally grows some balls and begins to openly question some of her decisions. This doesn’t end well for him but that’s beside the point.

Golden Empire (2013) - MyDramaList

Nahri still remain my favourite character in this series, she is simply amazing, I love the fact that she tends to make good decisions even in terrible situations. She is a realist to the core. Along with the lives and memories of hundreds of marid. Rain spirits who danced in the clouds to shatter themselves upon the ground, seeping deep into the earth to join aquifers. Shy stream guardians, darting through quiet ponds and underground springs with webbed hands and turtlelike beaks. Merpeople with shimmering skin and seaweed hair, caught in the nets of humans, hunted and speared. For every lethal marid—ones like Sobek and others who commanded sharks, who lived on the blood of the drowned and warred with the daevas—there seemed twenty gentle ones, protectors not hunters, content with seeing to the tiny aquatic creatures who called their realms home and urging their life-giving waters to sate the surrounding lands and make them flourish.” Orchestrations were generally well applied, often serving to add that extra punch to a scene. The best description that can be made of them "moody, elegant, and high drama." Beyond the incredible introductory piece though, I'm not sure any of them make for good post-view listening. Vocals are another story, with Yeon Gyu Sung ("Crying"), ALi ("In My Dream"), and Sun Soo Jin ("Shout to the World") serving up some of the best I've heard all year. Despite romantic lyrics occasionally inappropriate to the series, but hey, they sound great. Grayscaled artwork of Ali and Nahri feasting in Cairo, drawn by April Damon. ( Colored version of artwork)The end to this trilogy was everything I could have asked for. The extensive world building is expanded even further, the characters are pushed to the absolute limit. Read a full summary of The Kingdom of Copper by S. A. Chakraborty below. If you can’t remember what happened in The Kingdom of Copper and you need a refresher, then you’re in the right place. WHAT HAPPENED IN THE KINGDOM OF COPPER? I hate the trope where a girl falls in love with a man/being that is like thousands of years older than them. Under the leadership of Mansa Musa, 1312 - 1337, Mali became famous for its trade in gold and the kingdom became incredibly prosperous. Out of all currently airing Korean dramas I was watching synchronously with Golden Empire; this one managed to to snatch the top spot and remain as my top obsession all the way through; this drama excels in screenwriting and witty dialogues, this is a drama where billions were flying on the dining table and a cup of tea can decide someone’s destiny: Yes, I had to mention that because once the table is set for a cup of tea, you should know that you will be blown away by the characters’ dialogue. What I like the most about their dialogues are the metaphors, the quotes and the historical events that they use to deliver their ideas whether directly or indirectly that’s why I always thought that this drama’s writers are geniuses; not only they wrote amusing discussions but they also provided us intense thrilling events and intriguing twists without any drop of slow moments that can reduce our intention: loud claps for the most brilliant writers in Kdrama's history.

Golden Empire is simply gold but that gold isn’t for everyone to watch and I can fully understand why the audience would avoid a business/romance-free drama. Has it been a time when you were watching an excellent drama but you find out that most people are ignoring it and the internet buzz is almost inexistent? That’s my case with Empire of Gold.I do not believe ambitious men who say the only route to peace and prosperity lies in giving them more power—particularly when they do it with lands and people who are not theirs.” Some imperfections exist admittedly; early episodes are strewn with time skips and somewhat confusing cinematographic cuts. It took about five hours submerged in this drama for me to find my footing and solidify my understanding of the plot. Once I could, the rest of the experience was riveting.

Go Soo and Park Geun-hyung reunited with each other after they worked in another SBS TV series Marrying A Millionaire where Park played father of Go Soo's character, Lee Yo-won reunited with Park for the 3rd time in this series after they worked first in another SBS TV series Surgeon Bong Dal-hee and second in KBS series Cruel Love. But Nahri was done lying still. As Vizaresh raised the ax again, she called to Daevabad's magic, to the seal, and to her own strength. Now that I'm all hyped up again, I'm 100% sure that I need an ARC. Besides, I've been dangling off the cliff in book 2 for far too long already and I'm not strong enough to hold on for much longer. Dara was a fool almost throughout the book, for someone that is hundreds of years old he is so foolish, he made so many stupid decisions and his redemption was not good enough. That made it worse, this passing of a barbed baton between women who, no matter how clever, how powerful, would always be known by the men to whom they were attached.”

As soon as I read S.A. Chakraborty’s The City of Brass, I fell in love. It had everything that I enjoyed about epic fantasy, with the added benefit that it was based, not on the traditional Western European/medieval iconography, but instead on medieval Islamic mythology. I loved the sequel, Kingdom of Copper, which raised the emotional stakes significantly, and I recently finished the third and concluding book, The Empire of Gold, which is a triumphant wrapping up of the various plot threads that had been raised in the previous books. It’s everything you could want in the conclusion to a trilogy, with heartache, beauty, and excitement to spare. If what I have seen is true, it means there is peace for the worst of us. Rest for those who do not deserve it. It was beautiful. And it spoke to a mercy this world does not deserve.” this book is the X on the map, the lost city of wonder, the hidden oasis in the desert. it is the final resting point at which a traveller can see just how far they have come, understand just how much they learned and grew from the challenges they faced, all while being surrounded by old friends and new ones they made along the way. Now that I’ve read it I can definitely say that it solidifies the trilogy as one of my all time favorite book series ever. Ali is now living in a self made oasis in the desert, called Bir Nabat. A distant “cousin” of his, Musa, arrives and asks for Ali’s help crossing the desert to Daevabad. Ali refuses, so Musa sabotages the well before he leaves. Ali now has to take Musa’s salt tax to the city.

A woman who uses her looks to garner insider information, sets up a real estate consulting firm to sell what she knows. Even though it's a dangerous job, she teams up with Tae-joo to take down the Choi family and their business empire. She falls in love with Tae-joo. There was some wonderful slow burn romance in this book that made me SO happy. I don’t want to say too much, but how these two characters are around each other - completely able to be themselves, and the best versions of themselves too - is exactly the kind of romantic development I like to see. Subtle but deep. Slow but so very real. It’s rare to see a depiction of such a healthy love and friendship, especially in a Fantasy book with so much brutality and conflict surrounding the characters. It’s so well done here! Go Soo and Sunwoo Eunsook reunited with each other 1 decade after they worked in another SBS TV series My Fair Lady where Sunwoo portrayed as the mother of Go Soo's character also. I'm confused....is it over? Tonites episode ended with 'To be continued'....yet another drama is scheduled to begin next Monday.... Ali and Nahri pitch the hospital idea to Ghassan. He agrees as it’ll look like a promising joint effort between tribes. Nahri asks Jamshid to work with her. Muntadhir doesn’t like the idea at all.I laughed, i cried, i screamed, i wept, i cheered, i message all my friends who already read this and fangirling with them! From 1240 onwards, the empire expanded to include regions that were rich in gold, and the empire grew to be famous for its wealth. By the 1300s, the Mali Empire covered over 12,000 km and became the centre for trade, controlling the important cities of Timbuktu and Gao . Creator, every time I think I’ve found the bottom in all of this, I get some new story of murder and vengeance.” If you found our recaps useful, please consider leaving a tip! As a devout Muslim going on Hajj was very important to him, so in 1324, he travelled on a pilgrimage to Mecca with 60,000 men, some of whom were enslaved. They carried gold and other riches, some of which was distributed to the poor along the route. So much gold was traded and donated that it caused the price of gold to collapse in Cairo and other cities.
