Any thoughts of midges hatching in the ‘haze’ were dashed in a flash as I opened the car door – it was bloody freezing out there, and the peg I wanted to fish had the wind blowing straight into it. Just to make things even more interesting, the water was clearer than a nun’s conscience. The N’Zon is probably the perfect feeder rod for the vast majority of anglers. It’s lightweight, simple, and affordable. The N’Zon comes in several sizes and specifications, ranging from 9-14 feet with various casting weights. The smaller rods are better suited to short-range fishing while the longer rods will be ideal for bigger bodies of water. As we mentioned before, we’ve owned Middy products for many years and have had a lot of first-hand experience with them. From the many rods we’ve owned, we can confidently say that you won’t be disappointed in the quality and value for money that Middy gives, we’ve owned rods from them that are around 8 years old that we still use and are still strong. Overall though, each version of the rod is very solid and you should have no problem casting with any of them in commercial fisheries and small lakes, etc. Quality And of course, this means you need a feeder rod, but with all the options and versions of rods on the market, it can be difficult to find the right rod for you. We’ve compiled a list of tested and researched rods that we think will be perfect for the majority of match anglers. Fishing Rod

The PrestonIgnition Carp Feeder Fishing Rod is an affordable and high-quality rod that comes from a comprehensive range of fishing rods perfect for any commercial fishing or natural waters. With seamless actions, these are an unbeatable value! The Preston Ignition Carp Feeder Fishing Rods are perfect for underarms a method feeder in the margin. Each rod is supplied with two carbon tips, 1oz- 2 oz! With some manufacturers, there is no difference at all, whilst others provide heavier quiver tips and more powerful fish-playing actions. Generally speaking, you can use a feeder rod with any kind of feeder or bomb. The perfect all-round commercial feeder rod. Suitable for casting method feeders up to around 40m. progressive action which is perfect for tamig match sized carp.

When it comes to choosing a medium feeder rod, there are a few things to consider. Fish won't usually hook themselves with a traditional feeder set-up, so you'll need to watch the tip to spot and hit bites. A 1oz rated tip is great for calm conditions, while 2oz-3oz might be used in wind, tow, or on a river. The more tips the rod comes with, the more versatile it'll be. The taper of the tips is important too. Soft tips which bend right through offer little resistance to shy-biting fish, but faster taper tips show up tiny tentative bites better and allow you to cast harder and further. The car’s temperature gauge was showing it was only 50C out there, and to me it was even duller than another weekend without match fishing, football without a proper crowd, or the basic bloke necessity of going down the pub! With the Ignition, Preston decided to toughen up the quiver tips and fine-tune the nature of the rod so that it is perfect for reading bites and playing fish. With an excellent progressive action, the Ignition feeder rods handle fish of most sizes incredibly well, whether there’s a bream or a big brute of a carp at the end of your line, the Ignition range has got you covered.

Most commercial fishery feeder rods are designed with a progressive fish playing that bends at the tip and 'powers up' along the blank as more pressure is exerted, and ideal for carp. All-round feeder rods tend to have softer 'through' or 'cushioned parabolic' fish playing actions ideal for all species of silver fish. For budget rods they really are the business. They feel light to hold (to me anyway) have a good action and will bend all the way through when it comes to it (which you can see from the Preston adverts for them) and really power up when the bigger boys try to charge off. Casting Weight: 30g – Transport Length: 140cm – Weight: 158g – Handle Length: 52cm – Line rating: 4-10lb – Sections: 2 Parabolic Action: A rod that can bend throughout its length but stiffens towards its butt section, providing a controlled cushioning action when playing a fish. The Daiwa N'Zon feeder is one of the best feeder fishing rods, especially when fishing for small to medium-sized fish in rivers and streams. It has a thin, lightweight pole that makes it easy to carry, but it can still hold relatively large feeders without a hitch.

Carp

The Tournament SLR feeder rods are mainly suited to mid-long-range feeder fishing. Materials like the X45X Full Shield Bias Carbon and the impeccable construction of the rod all indicate that the Tournament SLR was designed for long-range fishing. Aesthetically pleasing, bags of performance mixed with a progressive action means these are equally comfortable fished on natural waters too! Fishing for F1s could almost be a branch of the sport all on its own, thanks to the unique skills required to catch them. A great all-rounder which is just as suitable for skimmers and bream as it is for carp. Lovely soft action with a powerful butt making it suitable for large match sized carp as well. This rod is ideal when casting further up to around 50m. On that day I chose to use the two-piece 9ft model, one of a series of six that also includes the 12ft two-piece Method Feeder rod that’s on live test duty this time around.

No, you should choose a rod that best suits the distance that you want to fish at. A rod that is too long and powerful will make casting short distances with any kind of accuracy difficult and will have a poor fish-playing action. This is why all rod ranges feature models of varying lengths and powers. If you're an angler, you know that no two models of coarse fishing rods perform precisely the same. Each one will have its unique advantages and disadvantages that make it more or less suitable for specific needs or users. So how do you decide which feeder fishing rod is the right one worth your hard-earned money? NOT all the best rods are designed to launch a bait over the horizon – and Preston Innovations’ two new Supera SL Feeder rods are the fishing equivalent of middle-distance runners. If you generally fish in the same venue or a handful of venues and you know what sort of distances you'll be fishing, then try to get a rod to match the style of angling you do. If you only need to cast 40m, a rod that will cast 90m is almost useless to you as the extra power will make it cumbersome to use at the shorter distances and may lead to hook pulls. A shorter, softer rod of around 10-11ft would be ideal, if you do fish venues, you need the extra distance, then go for a rod 11-12ft with an increased casting weight. What's the difference between a commercial feeder rod and an all-round or natural venue feeder rod?
