Hummingbird Life Cycle – Children will use the words from the word bank to label the life cycle of a hummingbird. They are also extremely high-maintenance, at least for my gardening skills. Please note I have a brown thumb and am lazy, so I don't have what it takes to create the garden haven for hummingbirds that this book discusses, but don't let my inability to coax a plant out of the ground discourage you. If you want to do it, do so and you will reap the rewards of having a garden alive with the beauty of hummingbirds. There is also a chapter called 'Hummingbirds on the Road' which is more like an appendix as it features a "Viewing Hummingbirds, State by State" guide. I'm not sure how these locations were chosen. In my state, nine parks or refuge centers were listed, but I think many more parks and centers could easily have been included. There is also a listing of hummingbird festivals for the dedicated birder.
A large format book with 172 colour photographs of 107 species of hummingbirds found in Colombia. Accompanying text includes discussion of hummingbird natural history, evolution of hummingbirds and flowers, biodiversity and conservation. You will also learn about plants that attract hummingbirds. Not only that, but native plants that you can plant to attract them. This is better all around because, not only do those plants feed the hummingbirds, but the native bees benefit too! I was happy to see this section included in the book. This book is a must-have for anyone who loves hummingbirds and wants to learn more about these captivating creatures. From identifying different species to creating a hummingbird-friendly garden, this book covers everything you need to know. I think this is a wonderful book. None has pleased me quite so much of late, nor filled me with more foreboding for the future. If you love nature even a little, you need a copy of this book on your shelf."—David Gascoigne, Travels with BirdsGenerally speaking, hummingbirds are small birds that live in tropical climates and love tubular plants.
