The use of studs embedded into the tree itself works remarkbly well visually, and I love the feeling of discovering and building each year’s Christmas tree.

I love how incredibly simple, yet poignant this design is, especially for us oldies who may remember actually using a desktop computer like this. Unique heads would certainly have been welcome, although the Winter Village sets usually provide relatively few new minifigures and these four elves are excellent. Nevertheless, I am disappointed that Santa Claus was omitted. He appears regularly in the City Advent Calendar and therefore remains available but should have accompanied his elves here.The mechanism for the oven works smoothly and seems nearly impossible to jam. It can be a little messy, though. Maybe that’s why that elf looks so unhappy: there’s some quality time with a mop in their near future. Final thoughts: The LEGO Elf Club House is a worthy addition to the Winter Village, and is a solid follow-up to last year’s Gingerbread House. It’s been tradition on the blog to publish my review of this year’s Winter Village set around Christmas, but LEGO were kind enough to offer the set for review, and I couldn’t wait till December. Before becoming a LEGO designer and creating this set, Chris McVeigh constructed some tremendous models. His classic computers are particularly popular and it therefore seems fitting to include another computer here! The angular keyboard and gigantic monitor are both evocative of computing from the 1990s and this model looks wonderful, displaying the elves' nice list in an appropriately antiquated style.
