From wind down looks to date night outfits, our co-founder styles the new washable silk robe three ways.

I personally use a favorite pen, set aside a time to do it each month, and literally schedule it into my day like I would an appointment. Full time, Leigh Patterson runs Lucca Studio, a creative branding studio focusing on words, images and ideas for clients such as Cereal, COS and J. I also usually drink an obscene amount of sparkling water, cold brew, and matcha on repeat all day long. All of life is the present; I consider The Moon Lists to be a useful tool for gaining perspective and allowing you to see what’s in front of you with clearer eyes (along with many other practices; this just happens to be the one that works for me).

It has helped me crystalize that the most obvious path is usually not the best one, and to hold that same standard of critical thinking across all projects and clients I collaborate with. A 12-month analog workbook, The Moon Lists uses prompts, list-making, and specific observations as a way to reflect, creatively expand, and see the present with refined perspective. From the twins to the crab, chatty Gemini yields to caring Cancer from June 22 – July 22 in the Western zodiac. I read about this book somewhere and thought the premise was great because the original idea that she took from a couple she encountered WAS great - what the author did with it however.

The Moon Lists is a new way to journal: Filled with 18 months of exercises for breaking through creative, emotional, and transitional roadblocks, it introduces a routine practice of digging below the surface to explore parts of the mind that are new, unknown, and full of possibility. I realized recently that the narrative I was telling others in casual conversation needed adjusting. I am not great at balance in many ways but I think I am good at maintaining a healthy enough distance from this specific project… I do not feel any pressure to make it something it is not. It initially started from reading an interview with photographer Sam Abell, a former National Geographic photographer with a 35-year career who now lives in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.Having been subscribed to the newsletters for a while, we were delighted when we heard that founder Leigh Patterson was taking the concept one step further and turning it into a physical workbook. You can define “the last four weeks” however you want: maybe you complete your list on the first of each month or maybe you just jump in whenever you can.

With Moon Lists, I strive to strike a balance between asking questions that can prompt deeper or unexpected thinking without feeling overly self-serious, embarrassingly earnest (or like I’m advocating for narcissism disguised as self-care). The new book combines seamless design by Natasha Mead and meaningful content designed to guide readers through the practice of making a ‘moon list’ and experiencing life in a new way.A perfect gift for yourself or a friend, this beautifully designed journal helps expand all aspects of your creative, personal, and emotional self. Loosely organized around the phases of the moon and punctuated with references to ’70s astrology, architecture, and art, Moon Lists encourages journalers to stop and reflect on the precious moments in their lives before time passes them by.

We asked Leigh some questions about the project and the book to find out a little more about the purpose of a moon list and how it can be a tool for self-care. The Moon Lists is a new way to journal: Filled with 18 months of exercises for breaking through creative, emotional, and transitional roadblocks, it introduces a routine practice of digging below the surface to explore parts of the mind + present tense that are new, unknown, and full of possibility. I do think it’s helpful to flip ahead to the prompts as you start your month to have them in the back of your mind as you go about your weeks .Loosely organized around the phases of the moon and punctuated with references to ’70s astrology, architecture, and art, Moon Lists encourages journalers to stop and reflect on the precious moments in their lives before time passes them by. The concept for Moon Lists was sparked by a random detail in a tiny regional magazine: a mention from photographer Sam Abell about a monthly question-asking, self-reflection ritual he shared with his wife.
