Description

Built-in 4G full Netcom module for networking, and can also use mobile phone hotspot WIFI for networking The Performance is Fine, it is just as responsive as using Native wired Carplay/Android Auto. And in fact, the connection is more stable and reliable than I have felt with factory Wireless Carplay in my X1. There is almost a 2-3 second lag between the audio sync as compared to the Wired connection. But I feel it's barely any worse than the factory Wireless solutions. Only time you’ll really complain is if you decide to play Video in Android Auto (through unofficial ways of course). The search ended with Carlinkit 4.0. Once you connect the device, you are greeted with a login screen and you have to connect the Bluetooth from your phone to this device, after that just follow the prompts on your phone and voila, you are connected! Once the Carlinkit 4.0 is set up, it performs decently well. The main issue that you might have with it is that it can take a while to load and connect to your phone. It’s not abnormal for the device to take 10 seconds or longer to actually connect to your phone, which can be a little annoying. Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR

In the box you get a paper instruction manual, there is the T-Box Plus itself, a USB-A to USB-C power cable, and a USB-C to C cable for modern CarPlay ports in the car. Lorsque cette interface s'affiche sur votre voiture, le voyant rouge clignote. Cela signifie que le Bluetooth est en train de se connecter. Wireless Android Auto: Android phones with Android 10.0 or above, some require Android 11.0 and above. Features: ✅ Built-in Qualcomm 8-Core Chip

We have tested eight devices, and the experience with each was similar. What they all share is that once you have your phone connected, you’ll appreciate the ease of wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. But you'll also notice a slight lag from hitting a button on the screen to when it responds (for example, when pausing a song) compared with using the direct wired connection.

Carlinkit’s U2W Plus, sometimes also called the Carlinkit 3.0, is one of the most advertised CarPlay-only dongles out there. The company also sells a combo CarPlay+Android Auto device called the 4.0, and the A2A for Android Auto-only use, among other devices. The 3.0 is rated to work with the iPhone 6 on up running iOS 10 on up, and in any car with factory-wired CarPlay except BMWs.But the interface of your phone, transposed to your dashboard screen? Now that is nice. So, if you’re like me, when you finally got a vehicle that supported CarPlay (for Apple iPhones) and/or Android Auto, you fell in love with it. Getting the adapter online requires either pairing it to a personal hotspot on your phone, connecting to a local Wi-Fi network in your car, or inserting a data SIM into the provided slot on the adapter. This last option is the only way you can simultaneously operate both internet-based Android apps and wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Otherwise, you’ll have to toggle the Wi-Fi and Hotspot connections each time. Your car model has a USB port, and the cable that comes with the dongle is equipped with a default USB-C to USB-A port. So how does this audio lag manifest itself? When for example skipping through songs, it takes the mentioned amount of time until the audio reflects the change. Also, the displayed album artwork is out of sync accordingly.

In second place we have the Ottocast Picasou 2 Pro. This is a new entry AI Box that I have yet to bring my full review on this channel, but it made good sense to size it up alongside all the other AI Boxes. Thanks to its overall performance it managed to easily sneak its way into taking second place in my top 5. Hyundai: Genesis Sedan, Azera, Sonata, i10, i30, i40, Elantra GT, Tucson, Veloster, Santa Fe, Ioniq, Kona, Santa Fe Sport, Elantra, Santa Fe XL, Accent, Nexo, Palisade, VenueVW: Spacefox, CC, Scirocco, Amarok, Beetle, Beetle Cabriolet, Golf R, Caddy, California, Caravelle, e-Golf, Fox, Golf, Golf Cabriolet, Golf SportsVan, Golf Variant, Golf SportWagen, GTI, Jetta, Lamando, Multivan, Passat Variant, Polo(Except for Polo with Type-C), Sharan, Tiguan, Touran, Transporter, Passat, Atlas, Crafter, CrossFox, Gol, Saveiro, Voyage, Arteon, Bora, Magotan, Sagitar, T-Roc, ID.3, ID.4 There is only one USB-C port on this mini dongle. So unlike other older dongles, there is no USB-A passthrough or any means to be able to update the dongle manually using a plugged-in USB drive. With this particular dongle, updates will only be available over the air. Once CarPlay has launched, everything runs as you would expect from this new wireless CarPlay dongle. Audio lag is going to be the same as any other dongle, due to using Wi-Fi to stream the CarPlay audio, video and touch input to and from your wirelessly connected iPhone. I have read some people say the audio is improved on this particular dongle, but personally, I couldn’t notice any difference, and I have found the audio to be generally fine on all the dongles I have reviewed.

Renault: Clio, Espace, Kadjar, Mégane, Mégane Estate, Scénic, Grand Scénic, Talisman, Talisman Estate, Koleos, Fluence, Twingo Even though CarPlay is a peer-to-peer connection, probably not suffering from lots of interference while on the road, also not using a hell of a lot of bandwidth (around 10-11mbps for wireless CarPlay), I am quite confident that Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) / WMM may help to bring down latencies quite a bit which would be a very welcome enhancement. Plug & Play So after many extensive tests, I narrowed down my 11 finalists to just my top 5. All of these AI Boxes are worth looking at, yet some may offer better connections and features, so depending on what you want out of your adapter, you might find an AI Box in second or fourth place that is a better fit for you. 5. Like the Ultra, it offers dual Bluetooth support for both wireless remote and game controllers, and again, thanks to its optimisations, it was the fastest to boot into all of the 4 test apps including Spotify, Google Maps, Youtube and Netflix.

Product Specs:

The Ottocast is basically a rebadged Carlinkit 3.0 dongle inside its slightly different casing. So having seen what the Ottocast can do, I thought it would be a good idea to see if the CarLinkit 3.0 will be any different from the original I have. So I took this dongle for a spin in the car to see how much faster it is against this CarLinkit 2.0 dongle. Firmware Updates & Tests
