I let them sit in the ice water for about four minutes, though you can leave the eggs there for up to an hour. You've been there: All that's standing between you and egg korma (or egg salad) is a bunch of just-boiled eggs and yet it's taking you 15 minutes to peel each one and you're removing huge gashes of white with every tiny shard of stubborn shell.

Another reason I'm skeptical of this method is that some eggshells still clung to the membranes for dear life — and water pressure did not keep me from flicking a big chunk of white off an egg as I tried to pry off a piece of shell. At this point, you can snack on them, slice them up and toss them into your favorite salads, devil them for an upcoming party (find out how long deviled eggs last in the fridge, or just sit and marvel over how easy that was. Once the eggs have cooked to your preferred time, use the skimmer to remove the eggs and immediately submerge them in the ice water bath to stop them from cooking.

Next time I do hard boiled eggs I will try it with the salt and vinegar to see if it makes a difference. The biggest risk with adding eggs to boiling water is that they'll crack and end up deflated and lopsided. I boiled the other three batches in plain water to test the other techniques: peeling under running water, peeling with a spoon, and shaking the egg in a jar before peeling. I found that long as you can get the spoon under the membrane and move it fairly gently, peeling eggs with a spoon is a smooth and effective method for removing shells.

Salting the water accomplishes a few things: It increases the temperature of the boiling water (so the egg white cooks a little faster and the yolk doesn’t overcook); it helps seal any small cracks or leaks; and a tiny bit permeates the egg shell, which makes for easy peel eggs. v=1584551380","options":["Title"],"media":[{"alt":"Clementines - Easy Peel - Each-Watts Farms","id":7138764914732,"position":1,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1.Since eggs are my favorite food ever, boiled eggs were one of the first foods I learned to make as a kid. Eggs added to boiling water rather than brought to a boil in the pot along with the cold water will be easier to peel. So even if you already know how to boil eggs — and I know many of you do — I hope you’ll learn something new.

I did notice one or two that cracked during boiling but there were no leaks and those eggs still cooked beautifully. I am 73 years old and always detested making deviled eggs, because the shell never releases and the eggs look like they have been in a war.The eggshells boiled with vinegar didn't feel softer than others, but peeling them felt noticeably easier. Also, some of the water permeates the shell, which helps loosen the bond to the egg white and makes the boiled eggs easy to peel.
