Lather Quality ( note: I recently re-vamped my lather quality scale, since I was giving out too many 9’s and there was too much variation within that score. You may have bought the Laurate version. I recently found this out and there is info on the shaving forums about this. People said they preferred the tallow version over the new version. I never consider the scent to be a big part off the actually rating when I would review a shaving soap. Because for me its more about the performance and value from a shaving soap. I was so intrigued by the extreme comments about Tabac that I had to buy one for myself. One whiff and I recognized it immediately. That was my late grandfather’s scent! He must have liked it so much that he wore the cologne/after shave. Given that this makes my opinion even more subjective, I like it as an occasional soap. On the objective side, I have to say that Tabac is the single best lathering shave soap I have ever used – so much so that it is only one of two soaps out of plenty I’ve tried that I use in addition to many creams in my rotation (Mitchell’s Wool Fat being the other). It is my understanding that it is distribution to the UK which is being discontinued and that it will continue to be made in Germany and sold on the continent. Ive used them for so many years now i dont want to change brand haha, slightly more expensive than i used to pay but i suppose theyre discontinued now.

Conclusion Palmolive wins IMHO..it performs well, extremely cheap and the scent, though perhaps a little boring (if you're a frag head or mad on scents) is inoffensive and clean smelling.
