There are lots of interesting characters in the book and it is surprising just how many different characters appear so that took a little bit of getting used to. I don't think it helped that I've had respiratory issues for the last six months and the descriptions of people fighting for breath were a little too familiar! This lady Rosemary and her husband George are retired, reclusive now due to the circumstances of the world and reading to each other in their garden is a joy.

Loveday and Kelly (Saturday girl Madison as well as Nathan) are soon all helping people in the best ways they can. But it worked very well as a flight book - it’s an engaging story with people who got under my skin. Great books recommended and the list at the end is great which means more to add to my tbr pile and some I already have.Beautifully written and thought provoking, it has reminded me of books I had forgotten about but will certainly read again plus some that I am unfamiliar with but will look out for. The most prominent of these being the story of Rosemary and George’s enduring relationship, told through a series of flashbacks throughout the book.

It gives the reader total immersion into the world, but makes it quite difficult to describe what happens. Although she’d never have chosen it, her dance with cancer has changed her life in many positive ways. At various points, I had to take a break from reading it because it brought back memories of lockdown and the sense of claustrophobia, frustration and fear I experienced and that was quite hard to deal with.Sometimes we see the person request the book again, we get to learn what happened in the next chapter, sometimes we don’t. It is not one I could recommend to everyone without explaining the triggers of which there are a lot. This is a time when, pre-vaccine, people who caught Covid were extremely ill, when NHS staff were exhausted, when other key workers such as supermarket workers and public transport staff daily put themselves at risk and when in general, most people were genuinely terrified. I loved the concept of the book pharmacy - so much so that I am trying to figure out if there might be a way of putting into practice something similar in our local library!
