Description

Since I read cookbooks like novels and Asma loves to tell stories, I think I need to pick up this book. Zum ersten Mal ist mir Asma Khan in einer Doku-Reihe aufgefallen, die den Werdegang außergewöhnlicher Küchenchefs/-chefinnen beschreibt.

Teaching herself to cook helped with the homesickness, and then, during several trips back home, she gradually learned the recipes that had been in her family for generations, not only from her mother but from her grandmother, aunts, cousins, family friends and the cook that worked for her parents for many decades. Sie hat keine Freunde, ist unglücklich, sehnt sich nach ihrer indischen Heimat, nach deren Aromen, den gemeinsamen Festessen. For those intimidated by the spiciness of the cuisinelike the author's sonKhan provides flavorful recipes for dum gosht (roast beef cooked with mild Indian spices) and boors chenni ki kheer (rice pudding with brown sugar). Alongside brilliant color photographs, Khan uses clear directions and measurements; and, thanks to online resources, feasting like a royal Mughal can happen anywhere. Asma was voted ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the Asian Restaurant Awards 2018, as well as ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the Asian Women of the Year Awards.

Asma is the first British chef to appear on Netflix’s award-winning series Chef’s Table (Season 6, February 2019). I tend to avoid the latter option because I like to know how a dish is supposed to taste before I try to make it at home. In this book, Asma reveals the secret to her success, telling her immigrant's story and how food brought her home. The recipes are homage to Asma's royal Mughlai ancestry and the busy streets of Calcutta and are split between. With so many recipes already offered to feed one’s imagination and appetite, it’d be greedy to ask for more – but I do hope the sequel dips into Asma’s fabulous Indo-Chinese repertoire and reveals the secrets of the kati rolls I could eat infinitely and exclusively.

In 2015, she opened a pop-up in Soho to much acclaim, and Darjeeling Express the restaurant opened its doors in June 2017, perfectly positioned in Kingly Court in central London. The recipes are homage to Asma's royal Mughlai ancestry and the busy streets of Calcutta and are split between simple mid-week meals, family feasts, feasts for friends and even celebratory feasts. Our favorite travel-inspiring cookbooks from 2019 ' Anywhere in the world you can learn the rituals, history, and even geography of a place through a shared mealno words needed. An all-women team of housewives runs the kitchen at Darjeeling Express, which has been featured in Time Out, Harper’s Bazaar, the Guardian, and numerous others. Ein empfehlenswertes Kochbuch, das nicht nur mit indischen Kochtraditionen vertraut macht, sondern auch dem kulturellen Erbe der Autorin huldigt und uns die Vielfalt dieses Landes näherbringt.Like Asma, the book is down to earth but with a touch of bling, is packed with delicious recipes and of course, lots and lots of stories. Asma’s food is homage to her royal Mughlai ancestry and the busy streets of Calcutta, where she grew up. But, through lighting, prop selection and canny compositions, Kim Lightbody’s images manage to make every dish look as good as it tastes. Overall, this book was a pleasure to use as a cookbook and also a pleasure to read as a regular book because of some of the extra text explaining things.

I saw Asma on chef's table and was inspired and uplifted by her story and I couldn't wait for this book to come out.

At that time, she couldn’t cook at all, and turned to discounted Indian cookbooks in her desperation for a taste of home. Many of the recipes are vegetarian, there are sweet treats and drinks, too, and all feature alongside lesser-known recipes and stories unique to Asma’s family.Sometimes the novels chosen are new, often they are from the backlist and occasionally re-issued from way back.
