About this deal

This album gathers recordings of Louis Armstrong with some of his most important friends and colleagues for a whopper of a compilation. It opens with an exclusive version of the Queen song " Tie Your Mother Down" subtitled "(Air Guitar Edit)", which features a different intro (a snippet of the song " We Will Rock You") than the original version (which was sometimes credited separately from the song). It's almost like Christmas was invented for Karen Carpenter to sing about; her milk-bath vocals fit "Sleigh Ride" and "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" like a reindeer sweater. The star, though, is Stevie Wonder: his original version of Someday at Christmas crushes Lizzo’s current cover, and his more upbeat What Christmas Means to Me is a joy.

Los Lobos pored over 150 regional and seasonal hits before landing on the 11 they wanted to record and introduce to new listeners, and within a few spins, each track became just as familiar as the holiday hits we've loved for years. The concept of the album is similar to the Harmless collections and to BMG Global TV's Blaxplotation album series. The issue isn’t the music – a string-laden take on funk – but Brown himself, who appears to be making up the words to every song as he goes along, with bewildering results. You can judge the staying power of David Bowie and Bing Crosby's legendarily bizarre "Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy" for yourself, but don't sleep on Captain Sensible's minor 1984 U. Listeners who are willing to suspend their disbelief and/or decades of Dylan snobbery might just find that the record offers plenty of magic for the holidays. The country star’s first Christmas album is just fantastic: hushed carols, an ample helping of sass (To Heck With Ole Santa Claus, I Won’t Decorate Your Christmas Tree) and, best of all, unadulterated tears-in-the-tinsel misery on Gift of the Blues and Christmas Without Daddy. A Charlie Brown Christmas has been a holiday classic for over half a century, and audiences keep tuning in year after year to enjoy watching a pack of kids celebrate Christmas with nary an adult in sight. The high point is the finger-poppin' "Christmas Night in Harlem," when he growls, "Everyone's gonna sit up til after 3/ Everyone, we be all lit up, like a Christmas tree," and throws in a big, winking belly laugh for party-boss punctuation. a too-cute 1970 Michael Jackson tells his doubting brothers in what might be Xmas-pop's most adorable moment. All in all, small gripes aside, The Best Christmas Album In The World Ever manages to live up to its name.

The album is a nearly flawless reminder that we are each allowed to celebrate whatever and however we please. The brass-assisted version of Joni Mitchell’s River – Christmas-adjacent rather than a Christmas song per se – is gorgeous.featuring house, big beat, techno and electronica was released in 1997, and there have been 16 sequels.

With that in mind, listening to Christmas Portrait is an exercise in loving one another and not taking the season or its meaning for granted. Several editions have been released since the first album, Power Ballads – The Greatest Driving Anthems in the World. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term. Who else but Barbara could offer such a moving performance of "Sleep in Heavenly Peace (Silent Night)" that is so beloved the world over?

Miller and buddy DJ Ray I have a roots-rock riot as they redo "Silver Bells" and "Deck the Halls" in rub-a-dub stylee (the former goes on for an epic nine minutes), and we'll give you a big, fat, green guess what the one endlessly repeated item on their "All I Want For Ismas" wish-list is. This is a record you put on when your relatives have all mercifully gone home and you can finally sit back in your favorite chair and slowly get loaded on Old Overholt while you watch some crap college bowl game with the sound off. Despite the air of hipster snark, it produced a genuine mainstream seasonal classic: the Waitresses’ delightful Christmas Wrapping.

And the whopping 42 tunes range from holiday classics to originals, such as the ode to stressed-out parents, "That Was the Worst Christmas Ever! The record is actually a compilation of the best songs from James Brown's three previous holiday albums recorded between 1966 and 1970: James Brown Sings Christmas Songs, A Soulful Christmas, and Hey America.Following the success of Volume 2, Volumes 1 and 2 were compiled into a box set, released in the same original CD boxes, but a slipcase had been placed over them displaying new artwork. The series was immensely popular, and most of the volumes performed well in the compilation charts, with some even making number one. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Crosby's 1945 album Merry Christmas – expanded over the years with tracks from throughout the Forties and Fifties and reissued on CD as White Christmas in 1986 – has a distinct Irish-Catholic flavor thanks to the hymn "Faith of Our Fathers" and the jaunty "Christmas in Killarney. For CDs Grading does not include Jewel case as these are replaceable - however any badly damaged Jewel cases will be replaced.
