If your just a person who just wants to learn how Derren Brown does his tricks, or is just starting out in magic and want to learn a few tricks for parties and to pick-up girls, then move along, cause this book will disappoint you in many ways. There is always the possibility that there was one or two at a 1p that sold to shove the ranking up.This we will display to the world and the world will see its goodness, and in its goodness will appreciate its delightful evil.

Brown describes an epiphany when he sat at a table and imagined what it would be like to be a typical diner being approached by one of us, a table-hopper. I also remember he makes several (quite sexist) jokes about women, seemingly to stress that he is straight, throughout.The one trick that many will be talking about but few will use, entitled "Smoke"—in which a thought-of card (from a face-up deck that is ribbon spread upon a table) is quite mysteriously divined, then instantly vanishes from the deck, whereupon the cigarette the performer has been blithely (and actually) smoking shockingly transforms into the card itself—in many ways crystallizes the ideas at the core of this book. Brown takes an extremely close look at the problems inherent in this effect's striking violation of the Too Perfect Theory. Books on magic are hit and miss, and this is hardly the worst of the lot, but unfortunately due to Derren's success now, Pure Effect was built up to unattainable heights.
