But Violet is not interested but she doesn’t think that they have her best interests at heart anyway. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. I quickly warmed to the character of Violet, loving her spirit and total disregard for social conventions. I liked Violet’s character, she struggles with what society wants her to be and I always love a ‘rule breaker’ so in that I enjoyed Violet’s character.

This quirky coming of age little tale tells the story of violet who is investigating her mothers disappearance 10 years ago from Hastings pier. But Violet is unimpressed with his lack of professionalism, and his assumptions about Lily seem set to defame her rather than save her.Sophie Irwin ‘Charming, exhilarating, fabulously funny and so full of heart – Violet is the heroine I’ve been waiting for. This book is about a woman who lived and thrived in the back country of New Mexico in the mid-1800s. The mystery surrounding Violet’s mother’s disappearance plays out well, though I felt there were some small issues with the plotting, and the pacing was a little even. Those looking for a light-hearted, cosy historical mystery will find they’ve come to the right place with No Life for a Lady.

The Chalke History Festival announces a new name, new look, and tons for history buffs to get their teeth into! In the beginning we see more of an internal monologue from her and while some of that is nice, it dominated the first half of the book, but by the second half she was way more active and I liked getting to see that side of her and not just always being in her head. I had been set on the idea, but now my attic was filled with the skeletons of half-finished hats, faded botanical specimens and, most tragic of all, dusty portraits of a few worthy occupants of the town. Even knowing that this book was written in the 1940s, though, and from the perspective of someone who vastly benefited from stolen land, coming across that paragraph felt like a slap in the face, and I think future readers should know to expect it.

She’s intelligent, with an inquiring mind and a caustic tongue, and tries valiantly to hold her own against the opposite sex, more often than not succeeding. It didn't work quite as well for me but I've got a stinkinng cold which probably impeded my sense of humour. Part rom-com, part mystery with a little comedy of manners thrown in, No Life for a Lady follows Violet Hamilton who lives with her father in the English seaside town of Hastings.
