About this deal

The only issue I can foresee is quizzical looks from colleagues as they query the doom sign behind my head on Teams meetings, and wonder if I’m some kind of cultist. You also don't get that headrest as standard, which adds a not-inconsiderable amount to the cost of the chair if you do want it. Considering I think it's more suited to the active position than reclining, I don't actually think it's a big miss not having the headrest. Just in case, standard Hero editions also include a headrest and lumbar pillow. If you don’t like the integrated one, use the external one instead.

You read that right, a magnetic head cushion. A simple solution to fiddly straps, the Titan Evo does away with all that with a couple of powerful magnets. Coming from the same stable as our favorite gaming chairs—the Secretlab Titan Evo—it's no surprise that the NeueChair is an outstanding seat. But it is very much a task chair, not a gaming chair. I put this together by myself and it took me around 20 mins (after struggling up 2 flights of stairs with the box lol) the instructions are super clear and easy to follow.Though there is still a part of me that wants to lounge around of an evening, and the NeueChair isn't designed for that. It is an office chair, after all. And one of the absolute best, too.

Yet I wasn't sure what to expect of the Embody before it arrived. I certainly hadn't envisioned such a massive box turning up on my doorstep. First impressions, then, entirely focused on how I was going to get said box up two flights of narrow steps leading up to my apartment. Now to the negatives. I am not happy with how much the arm rests wriggle. They feel quite flimsy if you were to move them around, but in normal use you do not notice it. I haven't used any of chairs with these 4D arm rests, so I cannot compare.Putting it together you'll be reminded of the low cost too. While everything did align well, and the materials are more than fit for purpose, I did have a little trouble getting some of the bolts in place. That was due to the marbles of balled up synthetic material around the holes, which had evidently been burned through. Aside from that, it took me maybe 40 minutes to put together—even without instructions in the box it was relatively straightforward, but this is coming from someone who puts together chairs on almost a monthly basis. I fully expect this chair to do me a long time - they seem very hard wearing. I toyed with the idea of buying a different Hero chair, but no matter which I looked at, I still couldn’t get over the style and attention to detail of the Doom variant. Notice anything missing? Maybe a lumbar support pillow. That’s the cool thing! There is no lumbar support pillow, but there is lumbar support—it’s built into the chair. And controlled by two knobs placed on the left and right sides of the chair. The chair is also upholstered immaculately. While there's still something to be said for the SoftWeave Plus fabric that Secretlab also offers (we tested the hybrid leatherette version), I have to say I'm quite taken with the look of the leatherette, and especially the bright red stitching. Just remember, it's reserved only for those who have proven themselves ‘too tough for hell to contain’.
