We will try our best however if we are unable to do this we will still install connect to plumbing and put the appliance in situ. Browning is set by a sliding control that runs from 1 to 6, but you can position it anywhere on that sliding scale. This controls both slots at once. While it does seem like a steep price to pay, The Smart Toast's quality, reliability and impressive capabilities mean it should probably save you more money in the long-run. But there are other toasters like the Dualit 4 Slot Lite and Hotpoint TT 44E UP0 with built-in intelligence that perform even better by reducing toasting time if the toaster is already hot.

There’s no lever to lower the toast: instead the Sage has a motorised lift. Press a button to start toasting and the bread is lowered into the slot. Then the toast ascends automatically when it’s done. The Sage Smart Toast looks simple yet sophisticated with its solid brushed stainless steel design. Unlike other humongous, premium toasters, it's reasonably light and doesn’t take up heaps of kitchen counter space.

Above this are four buttons: A Bit More, Crumpet/Fruit Loaf that promises extra heat to the middle elements, Frozen, Cancel. There’s no button for reheating toast. The brushed steel finish is pleasantly impervious to fingerprints and a good, wide crumb tray comes out of left-hand side. The outside walls remain very cool after toasting. If you want even toasting and great features, but aren’t bothered about the motorised lift function, then opt for the Dualit Brushed Architect Four-Slice Toaster – four slots for less money. If you love the idea of the motorised lift then consider the even pricier Morphy Richards Redefine Glass Toaster. And if you just want a good toaster then the Hotpoint TT44EAX0 is very impressive. Verdict The best two-slot toaster we’ve tested is the KitchenAid Artisan, but it’s very pricey. If you’re open to the idea of a four-slot toaster than the Dualit and Hotpoint are our favourites, or maybe the Morphy Richards Rose Gold Toaster if you’re on a budget. Verdict The Sage lifts the toast automatically and beeps when it’s done. And how beautifully done it was! The browning was perfect, even at the top of the slice, which we thought may be underdone. Only the Morphy Richards and the Dualit Brushed Architect Four-Slice Toaster offers comparable browning.The Sage has a boxy design in a brushed-metal finish. A cable tidy on the underside is able to house a cable 1m in length from the controls end and 80cm from the other end. We do provide installation options for built-in appliances providing it is simply a case of fitting the appliance and furniture doors. Any additional work to the kitchen units or carpentry work required will need to be completed at the customer’s expense. Perhaps the more exciting features (and what you’re paying for) are the five auto features designed to make toasting a breeze. The buttons are self-explanatory, so you won’t have to decipher complicated symbols. The beep at the end of the toasting cycle is handy but it happens at the exact same time as the toast popping up, so the sound is masked. It would be better if it beeped a second earlier or later.
