About this deal

Being scaled up, re-posed, and made in plastic, GW is giving us exactly what we’ve been asking for over the past years! I’ll start off by saying that you need to pay attention as there is a lot going on in this book. On the face of it you’d think ‘dark science-fiction because it’s Warhammer 40,000’. What you get is dark science-fiction with and undercurrent of military mystery/thriller style plot. Space Marines or Adeptus Astartes - the posterboys of WH40K. Foremost amongst the defenders of Humanity, created by the Emperor by generic engineering. Wearing Power Armor that Starcraft marines copied without remorse. Though normally concerned solely with their regiment’s morale and loyalty, in exceptional circumstances commissars have been granted long-term command positions. One of the most famous of these is Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, an honourable warrior who led the elite Tanith First-and-Only throughout the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. As well as the typical Commissar abilities, Raine has a bespoke ability, Leading from the front, which reflects her gung-ho nature, and makes nearby Astra Militarum forces immune to Morale tests when Raine is within 1″ of enemy models. This makes her perfect for leading a force of elite troopers like Veterans and Tempestus Scions to get up-close with the enemy – just the way she fights in Rachel’s stories.

Women in the hobby are just like you, and we want to be treated the same. We want to stop being sidelined, or expected to exist to just titillate the men, or to give them something to save. We want decent representation, and a chance to play on an even playing field (or table). We want characters that reflect ourselves, young and old and everything in between. And it doesn’t stop there, obviously – the same goes for gamers of colour, and for LGBT gamers. And that’s all happening too, which is amazing. It’s a deeply personal book, quite unlike anything else I’ve ever written. This is partially because the central characters/relationships have been with me for a very long time (wrote the original short story in the early 90s), meaning that they’re quite subtle and complex, and hence very real. And partially because it was the book I was writing over my Mother’s illness and death, and I guess that was where it all went. Working for FP for as long as I did, though, I was in the best place to not only ride, but champion, the ascent of geek culture in the UK, and the involvement of women in that ascent – female writers, readers, artists, creators, gamers, collectors, hobbyists, fans – and to watch (and help) social media give women a strong and unified voice. For example: there’s nothing with having a female character in a bikini, or having a sexual female character, if that’s what the story requires – but please, not all of them. Not every. Single. Bloody. One. And if they are sexual (same goes for the men!), then it should be for a reason, and that character should still have three dimensions. She’s not just there to be rescued, or to be the narrative equivalent of a blow-up doll.

Female Stormcast Models We’ve Seen

Blood Angels - one of the 20 Fist Founding Legions of the Space Marines, their armor main color is red. Danie: It’s certainly come a very long way from when I started in the 80s – and not only for women, but for the profile of geek culture in its entirety. I remember the days when role-players and gamers were firmly in the closest, keeping our hobbies and passions very quiet! In the end, I understand that not everybody is looking for what I'm looking for in the 40k universe, and it's ok. If you're looking for a multifaceted and nuanced vision of the 40k universe, like me, then this book is not for you.

Honorbound tells the story of Severina Raine. The model is even based on the art of herself on the cover of the book. We already know she got her own set of rules for Kill Team that were spotted recently on Imgur, and now have her Warhammer 40k rules as well! Severina Raine Kill Team Rulesheet The following review was originally published in the online newspaper The Orkney News in May 2020. Link here. https://theorkneynews.scot/2020/05/17... Another thought coming to mind with the book - she has a pretty decent armor on the coverpicture instead of a metal bikini, so that's a refreshingly functional design by the artist. But I guess the whole Warhammer universe tries really hard to be children friendly, so no kissy-kissy anywhere, and definitely no bikinis! But blood and gore is fine to the US PG-scale... The Raine miniature is based on the cover art for a new novel also coming for the Celebration, Rachel Harrison’s debut novel Honourbound. In the first scene of Honourbound, we follow a soldier who is acting cowardly. The commissar Severina Raine executes him and... as we read his final thoughts, he actually agrees with it. He feels like he deserves it. So, our hero has just executed a man and there's no ambiguity or doubt about it. That was the right thing to do and that's it, no reason to think twice about it. Wouldn't it have been more interesting to have more nuance about it, though? Aaron: Thats a good point that it’s really on all of us to be doing this – what could we be doing, as gamers, to be better and do more? Looking at the miniature, she’s totally functional as a Commissar on the 40k tabletop according to GW:
