We have reached the end of our review and what we can say is that the LG SN5Y is not all that different from its predecessor. It is a low end yearly release so things are pretty much the same without this being necessarily a bad thing. LG had an already good low end performer on their hands and this continues well into 2020. It also boasts Dolby Atmos, DTS:Xand British hi-fi specialist Meridian Audio's Advanced Sound Technology enhancements – Bass and Space technology aims to boost low frequencies and widen the soundstage, while Image Elevation promises to raise the perceived height of vocals and instruments.Some models also come with streaming services like Google Chromecast and Spotify Connect built-in, allowing you to stream your favourite playlists directly from your soundbar. The build quality of the device is solid (quite literally) with the bar itself feeling somewhat on the lighter side. Musik spiller en helt utrolig stor rolle i vores hverdag. In this second inset we get a HDMI input, a HDMI output that has added ARC support as well as a USB port that you can use to connect external storage and stream audio from there. Now when it comes to its sound modes the SN5Y includes all the usual ones we always get in a LG soundbar. As such there is Standard, Bass Blast and Bass Blast+, AI Sound Pro and DTS Virtual: X. Standard gives you optimized sound for most kinds of content, both Bass Blast modes give you enhanced low end and more powerful bass, AI Sound Pro uses Adaptive Sound Control (ASC) to automatically adjust sound levels, bringing out treble or bass based on what you’re watching while DTS Virtual: X tries to emulate a virtual surround environment with audio that comes not only from the front but also the sides and behind the viewer. For this last one we will talk a bit in more detail in our movie testing section shortly.If your TV doesn’t have an ARC slot like I mentioned before, then first take the optical cable and connect it into the soundbar. Then take the other side and connect it into the TV.

I’ve actually talked about DTS Virtual:X before, but it’s basically a way of simulating surround sound without the need for actual surrounding speakers placed around you. Bluetooth streaming is also available which means you can stream music from any mobile device like smartphone or tablet to your soundbar. The process could not be easier as you connect your device and streaming starts. We were a bit disappointed to see that Bluetooth v4.0 is still used in this one but at least in our tests we didn’t face any streaming or connection problems. A couple of observations to make here. Firstly with HDMI 1.4 used there is only ARC and no eARC support something that may disappoint a few as LG seems to fully support eARC in their TVs from 2019 already and it’s something that we were hoping to find this year but the low cost nature of the SN5Y seems to be a deciding factor against that. Secondly their is no AUX port that we usually see but in our opinion since there is an optical as well as HDMI ports available, missing an AUX port is not such a big deal even for such a basic model. This soundbar stands out when it comes tomovies. Multichannel content, including surround sound formats like Dolby Digital and height content like Dolby Atmos, is immersive, and sound effects seem like they're coming from all around you. Compared to last year's LG SP11RA, its satellites have an additional front-facing driver built-in, which helps to more accurately represent the action in the soundstage. While sound doesn't extend quite as wide as other premium models like the Bose Smart Soundbar 900 with Speakers + Bass Module or the Sonos Arc with Sub + One SL Speakers, it still does a great job.

The included subwoofer on the other hand features a single 6″ driver in what appears to be a Bass Reflex enclosure while the front grille is fixed and cannot be removed.

If you're on a tight budget, the Yamaha YAS-207, is a top shout – it took home a gong at our 2019 and 2020 awards ceremonies – while if you want the best, it has to be the Sennheiser Ambeo.First, if your TV does support it (most recent TVs do), then start by connecting the cable into the slot labeled ARC on the soundbar. Then connect the other side of that same cable into the same slot labeled ARC on your television.
