About this deal

Battery usage: I didn’t really test it scientifically, but the TSDZ2 seems to last much longer. Which makes sense, since it has a lower wattage, and it doesn’t deliver quite as much power [editor: adding your legs by pedaling always doubles the miles of the battery on any mid drive. If you swap-in a hand-throttle and only use that, you will get half the miles on the TSDZ2] A TSDZ2 that has been adapted to using two 110-BCD chainrings and a derailleur, shown here on a recumbent tadpole trike. When using your e-bike with the TSDZ2B Mid Motor, remember to follow local traffic laws and regulations. Familiarize yourself with any specific rules regarding electric bicycles in your area, such as speed limits, bike lane usage, and helmet requirements. Conclusion However, another big opportunity with the TSDZ2 is there’s a very active open-source firmware build available. This allows you to tweak a whole range of values (and sorts the diminishing-assist-with-increasing-cadence issue I mentioned earlier), add in a walk-assist mode, and apparently makes it feel like a completely different motor (in a good way).

Mud guards again if commuting. Can be a pain if you do lots of muddy off-road riding as they can get jammed with mud. When I was un-impressed by the TSDZ2 years ago, it was a 36V unit that had a max adjustability of 500W, which means it was clearly designed for all the nations outside of the USA (admittedly a huge market), but if you start using this unit at 48V, I’m told it really wakes up (33% more watts, without a significant increase of heat). My kit is the 48v 750w with a Hailong 48V 17.5ah battery. Its quite hilly where I live and I didn't want battery anxiety whilst out. I have been out on it all afternoon so this is my early impressions.

Question: I've been looking at the specs and it states 250w however the controller is set to 16A and the battery is 48v.

A word of caution; if you’ve got a warranty from the place you bought the motor from, flashing a new firmware onto it would obviously void that. Plus I believe it’s possible to tweak the firmware to make the motor non-EU-legal, which would leave you riding an uninsured, un-registered motorbike (not a good situation to be in should you ever find yourself in a collision, regardless of fault). Conclusion – would I buy it again? Those drawn to the TSDZ2 usually come to it by searching “torque sensing mid-drive motor.” Until the CYC line of mid-drive motors came out, the TSDZ2 was the only game in town for torque sensing, which is its primary advantage over the Bafang mid-drive motors. With torque-sensing, the motor not only senses that you are pedaling but also senses how hard you are pedaling and can respond accordingly. It can feel very natural to have the ebike respond by magnifying your effort with motor power and not just put out a constant amount of power whenever you are pedaling as the Bafang motors do, Also, I have found it difficult to get past 40-km/h on flats with the TSDZ2. I think that is because the assist cuts out beyond a certain level of RPM. A larger front chain ring would help if speed is what you need. The default chain ring is 42T. There is also a setting for “power adjustment”, which may help if I increase it. Most TSDZ2B Mid Motor kits come with a display unit that allows you to configure various settings, such as power levels, pedal-assist modes, and screen brightness. Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the display's menu and adjust the settings according to your preferences.I did have a few minor gripes. The instructions could have covered the entire build, not just fitting the motor. The design of the display remote meant I found it difficult to select the information button without accidentally changing the assistance level and I noticed, if you accidentally have your foot on the pedal when you turn the unit on, it seems to mis-calibrate its torque sensitivity and you end up with little or no assistance.

d)The fewer gears in the rear cassette the better. The motor is so powerful you tend to forget to change gears and only use the higher half even on big hillsWhen installing and using the TSDZ2B Mid Motor, it's essential to prioritize safety. Here are some tips to keep in mind: Ensuring Proper Electrical Connections
