About this deal

On a very general level—just looking at the ingredient list without the added nuance of ingredient amounts and manufacturing processes—Instinct by Nature’s Variety raw and freeze-dried food for kittens looks good. I’m seeing a nice mix of muscle meat, organs, and bones, plus a nice range of additives to ensure that the food is nutritionally complete and supports healthy digestion. I think that either the freeze-dried or frozen recipe would be a great choice for a kitten. Kittens that are just born nurse from their mother for nutrition. A kitten milk replacer may be used if the kittens are taken away from their mother ( that’s why you’ll need to bottle-fed). Around three to four weeks of age, the weaning process may start, at which point more solid foods can be introduced. Kitten Nutrition Also, older cats are more likely to suffer from kidney problems, heart disease, and joint problems, so specially formulated foods can keep them healthier for longer.

The feeding guidelines for kittens are provided below, but you should base any adjustments on your kitten’s physical condition. Kittens can start to nibble (and play with) solid foods as they start to wean. To ease the transition, start with wet kitten food or moistened dry kibble. The high carbohydrate content of dry cat food is hard to nutritionally justify. Some high-carb ingredients are necessary for the extrusion process to work but your cat’s ability to digest and utilize nutrients from plant ingredients is limited. Carnivorous animals like your cat are better physiologically adapted to processing animal products. The biggest issue with the dip method is that it can take a longer time to complete the bath, particularly with larger cats. You might find it easier to use a spray nozzle or shower on a very low force. Try to keep the nozzle close to the fur so that the cat doesn’t see the spray and avoid any loud-sounding showers.Again, I’m not a veterinarian, but if I were in your position, I would look for a non-prescription food with highly-digestible protein and controlled phosphorus levels. These two qualities would put my mind at ease just in case she does still have some kidney issues and they’re equally appropriate for a cat with full kidney function.

I perfer dry food as I work weird hours and long ones and never the same day to day and all my cats have an automatic feeder. This one is in a dog cage away from the others to get more used to me as she don’t know how to cat and my male don’t like strangers and female is freaked out by another cat (they were strays adopted at a shelter though) Kittens can begin weaning, or switching to solid food, at 3–4 weeks of age . Give them access to wet kitten food several times per day or a gruel made by combining warm water with premium canned kitten food. For instance, you could place some dry kibble in her bowl in the morning and let her graze all day. Give half of her daily amount in the morning and a half in the evening if a twice-daily schedule is more effective. Hello! First off, I am so sorry about the late reply! I know you’re looking for an end to this struggle, and waiting ten days for a response was not what you were hoping for. Anyway, to jump into things without wasting any more of your time: The following foods all combine nutritional ingredients, complete nutrition, and palatability. They are also highly recommended by veterinarians and cat parents and have price points that make them accessible to the majority of families.

In all honesty, I have been a raw feeder since researching dog food 6yrs ago. The cats also were happy on raw (with added taurine). However, the quality has gradually diminished from the many suppliers I've used, to the point where it often has an 'off' smell. I can only theorise that with raw becoming more popular, many more suppliers popping up = less of the quality/cheap items available to suppliers??? (Just my theory).

You can try different varieties of textures and the tastes of the food you give her. You can also feed dry kibble on its own or a mixture of dry and wet food.

Top Picks Explained

When you celebrate your kitten’s first birthday, that is also the time you change their kitten food to adult cat food. However, keep in mind that cats of larger breeds may continue to grow and eat a diet focused on growth until they are 3–4 years old. Wrapping It Up Each recipe contains no artificial ingredients, flavors, or preservatives, and all ingredients are 100 percent traceable. You’ll never find any meal, additives, or by-products in any of Open Farm’s cat foods. However, there are instances where bathing a cat becomes a necessity. Outdoor cats are often caught in leaves, piles of dirt, and other situations that can leave them covered in mess. There are also some breeds of cat that demand more grooming. Long-hair cats like Maine Coons and Himalayans may need extra assistance with their grooming to reduce the risk of matting and fur balls. Hairless cats may also need regular baths to help remove shedding skin. Because of its softness, wet cat food may also benefit senior cats with dental problems or missing teeth. Depending on your cat’s life stage, wet food has many benefits.
