About this deal

As we covered earlier, the grinds fall straight from the burrs to the basket, leaving fluffy grinds. This design also accounts for the device’s low retention – one of the lowest around. Having virtually zero retention is great for domestic espresso. It minimizes stale grounds from previous use. Also, it helps prevent waste because you don’t need to purge old coffee grounds whenever you alter the grind setting. Cleaning And Maintenance

Please bear in mind that not all manufacturers provide correct imagery and we may put a similar or alternative image to the actual product for illustration purposes only. The actual item you receive may differ from that which is displayed, for example the box may have changed or a model may have been upgraded or changed after we have added the product online. All models accommodate portafilters or an included grinds bin. On the 30, the plastic support forks are adjusted by pulling them out and re-inserting. The 270s have a nicer metal support fork which adjust without removal. Conclusion The design is also why the Sette is one of the grinders with the lowest retention. Having as close tozero retentionas possible is ideal when it comes to home espresso. It means you have precise control over your grind size at the maximum, which is definitely a plus point for espresso lovers. It has a built-in Acaia Scale, which automatically decides the instructed weight and it actually works pretty handsomely. You’re mainly into drip coffee — A dedicated espresso grinder is always more expensive, so if you’re only brewing by manual methods, you can get an excellent grinder for a lot less. The OXO Brew conical burr grinder is one such affordable option, and it produces a grind quality suitable for pour-over, French press, and even cold brew with remarkable consistency. The Baratza Sette 30 AP was first released in the 2017 Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Expo. Initially, it was marketed as a high-quality drip and pour-over grinder. The idea was that it would be a slimmed-down version of the Baratza Sette 270espresso grinder, with fewer grind settings (30 rather than 270), more plastic in the design, and no fancy portafilter holder.

The Baratza Sette is a hugely popular entry-level espresso grinder. Each Sette model is equipped with 40-millimeter conical steel burrs. Unlike most grinders, the Sette’s outer burr spins around a static inner burr, allowing the Sette to produce high-quality ground coffee with almost zero grind retention.

Which one should you choose?

When you alter the macro setting between 25 and 30, the Sette can produce coarser grinds for French press or drip coffee. However, the calibration of the S1 burr (which the Sette 270 has) ensures a fine grind, so it isn’t great at the coarser grinds. However, Baratza also has an S2 brew grind burr as an accessory, which produces fewer fines and isn’t as sharp on edge. Still, if you need to get a uniform grind for other coffee brewing methods, we recommend either the Baratza Virtuoso+ or Baratza Encore. The Sette 30 lets you remove the bean hopper with the beans remaining inside; you will have to dump out the beans on the Virtuoso+ before removing the hopper to clean the burrs or do other maintenance. The Virtuoso+’s grind output is slightly on the clumpy side (for espresso, this is a possible detriment); but the Sette 30’s output is fluffy and clump free. It’s also made to fit the most popular brewing devices including Hario v60, Kalita Wave, or the Clever Dripper.
