About this deal

Esta antologia incluye diez relatos, el body horror esta muy presente, al igual que el gore y una ambientacion espeluznante. Una antologia con un nivel medio, algunas ilustraciones son realmente demasiado graficas para mi gusto personal. Shiver” is the second story in Junji Ito’s Shiver and it’s a story that will linger with you. Not only because of the terrifying imagery it implores, but because this story will literally make you shiver. It puts you in the headspace of the lead character and introduces a concept that is impossible, yet is easy to fathom. Speaking of imagination, Junji Ito’s influence stretches from other horror manga legends like Kazuo Umezu, author of the infamous Orochi: Blood, all the way to the previously mentioned originator of eldritch horror literature H.P. Lovecraft. There is one particular chapter which involves a strange bug. This headless thing with a swollen body and long antennae is grotesque, but it becomes more-so as the chapter progresses. The detailed gore that Ito draws so well is in full force at this moment. No Longer Human is a novel inspired by Dazai’s own life, experiences, and behaviours. It shows us a man who feels as though he exists outside of the human experience.

Inside and outside of his home country, Junji Ito’s manga is celebrated as the best of Japanese horror writing. The Long Dream” involves a man who insists that his dreams can last a year or longer, and he desperately seeks help from doctors. Upon a return visit, at Shuichi’s frantic insistence, Risa becomes frightfully aware as to what’s causing her recent woes. The top of Mr. Makita’s head (Shuichi’s father) is attached to the cranial caps of his numerous aunts, uncles and forefathers (his titular honored ancestors) in a lengthy, hairy, caterpillar-like rope of collective consciousness that snakes throughout the house. But Mr. Makita is dying. Shuichi is the last descendant within the Makita family. He too must merge with his father and his paternal bloodline. However, before he does, he must ensure that he too sires a child. And for that, much to Risa’s dismay, he requires a wife. Yuuji watches as Rina's doctor comes to visit her, but she screams and slams the door in his face. Yuuji half-remembers the face of the doctor who attended Yuuji's grandfather; and comes to suspect they are the same person. He debates over whether or not to tell Rina's family that his grandfather is responsible for the curse on their daughter. Hideo encourages Yuuji to keep quiet about it, but Yuuji resolves he must tell the truth. As he is about to go over to their house, he sees Rina in the garden outside, apparently recovered. She is calm and happy, and her skin looks completely normal. Fun fact: When I was a kid watching Return of the Jedi, I thought that Yoda telling Luke that he was 900 years old meant that he was a human who happened to have lived for that long. The majority of Junji Ito’s work in the English-speaking world is published by Viz Signature, an imprint of Viz Media. However, there are two books ( Dissolving Classroom and Junji Ito’s Cat Diary) that are published Kodansha Comics.

Fashion Model was a standout to me, the monster of the tale being absolutely horrifying to look at. The art style here is terrific, Ito at his best! Really glad there was a bonus story featuring the “model” Fuchi. You can’t talk about horror mangawithout mentioning Junji Ito. He’s a modern master. Since 1987, he’s been disturbing readers with short and long-form stories that blend several subgenres, such as psychological and body horror. No Longer Human has had a staggering influence on not only the Japanese canon, but also the works of writers like Qiu Miaojin and many other Korean and Taiwanese authors. She learns about the Christian missionary Miguel, whom the villagers protected during Japan’s prosecution of Christians.I haven’t talked about this much so far but it’s Ito’s ability to draw the human form in distorted, monstrous, broken ways that really makes him stand tall as a master of horror. Since he is so scared and she looks so very obviously scary, doubt is immediately sewn into our minds about whether or not she is actually a threat. Fashion Model (from Souichi's Diary of Curses, 双一の呪い日記, Sōichi no Noroi no Nikki), a story about an oddly ominous fashion model.

Another reason that Junji Ito’s Cat Diary is so unique is that it is one of the most unique uses of Ito’s own imagination and approach to horror art. The central conceit behind this weird and wonderful Junji Ito manga is that our bedridden man lives for several years in a dream state every time he sleeps. He goes to bed and dreams of entire lives. Put simply, Junji Ito’s Cat Diary is a short book about Ito’s very real personal experience with becoming the sudden owner of two cats: Yon and Mu.

The Long Dream

However, in spite of that, Honoured Ancestors still stands tall as one of Ito’s coolest concepts for a horror manga short story.
