About this deal

The body is plastic, the speaker grille is a basic fabric wrap that won’t repel moisture, and the series of rubbery buttons on the Jam Rhythm’s top appear pretty basic. Consistent pragmatism is what characterises the Jam Rhythm hardware: no part feels poorly made, but the build is prosaic. We didn’t find the Jam Classic to be the most captivating of performers, noting that if your aim was to boost the audio of your smartphone, “the JAM Classic 2.0 does enough. Just.” Three stars was our indifferent verdict. This Jam Sound HX-TTP200WDA-GB Belt Drive Turntable will bring you that nostalgic sound of old vinyl you’ve been missing so much.Built-in speakers make this turntable a very handy compact choice. It’s complemented by its classic, minimal wooden design that will not disappoint any living space. Pull out the full collection! The three-speed options let you play singles, LPs or old pre-50s pieces, so you’re sorted with all your vinyl. The only issue I would have is the louder volumes can be a bit tinny and have the standard static noise, however, this only happens at the louder settings and lower volume this isn’t an issue. If this issue affects you can plug in external speakers via the RCA output so you can get better sound at louder volumes which is great.

The sound reproduction is clear, clean and naturally warm sounding. There is good instrument separation between the left and right channels, thanks to the location of the built-in speakers - 30cm apart. The JAM Sound Stream+ Turntable is a belt drive turntable so, the motor that rotates the platter is driven by a belt, which creates far less noise vibration than a direct drive turntable. On the downside, belt driven turntables aren't as durable because the belt will have to be replaced at some point; whereas with a direct drive turntable you don't because there is no belt - the platter is directly attached to the motor; hence the name "direct drive". It’s very easy to set up, unbox it, plug it in, remove plastic protections and turn it on, DONE. The volume range is larger than I thought and at max is quite loud. I like how it has a level for the needle so you don’t need to lift the needle yourself and scratch your vinyl. RCA Output / Want to grow the party to speakers that do not have Bluetooth, no problem! We’ve got you covered with the RCA output Bluetooth: Built-in Bluetooth® capability for easy pairing with your favourite JAM speaker. With a range of up to 30-ft/10-m it can seamlessly connect to any Bluetooth compatible speaker. The Jam Rhythm is a dinky wireless speaker. There’s no shortage of rivals in this class; top alternatives include the Sonos and the less impressive Bose SoundTouch 10. On the other hand we were very impressed with what the Jam Heavy Metal had to offer, handing it five stars and praising its “impressive bass reach”. We called it a “well made, good-looking slab of metal," and it's a popular option given it tends to be half-price if you shop around. The “favourites” button is the star. The blue LED next to it shows the current favourite being used Bluetooth– Built-in Bluetooth® capability for easy pairing with your favorite JAM speaker. So you can grow the party and amplify the sound, with a range of up to 30-ft/10-m you can seamlessly connect to any Bluetooth compatible speaker.

Small and cheap Spotify Connect speakers that we’ve reviewed over the past year or so have almost universally sounded quite poor. Here, we were pleasantly surprised. The Jam Rhythm’s wireless reliability wasn’t perfect during testing either, but seemingly only because it didn’t get on too well with our Netgear Nighthawk X4S router, which has caused problems with other smaller-brand wireless speakers in the past. This speaker’s standard setup procedure is simple and clearly explained – and if you have any issues, the speaker also supports WPS pairing. RCA Output: Want to grow the party to speakers that do not have Bluetooth, no problem! We’ve got you covered with the RCA output.

The Jam Rhythm uses quite a traditional speaker setup. It has a large 3.5-inch driver tuned for bass and a pair of smaller drivers, rather than a series of dinky drivers and a couple of passive bass radiators. The bass goes deep, too. If you’re able to crank up the volume every now and then, the Jam Rhythm is worth dancing around the house to. However, like most speakers using a traditional driver setup such as this, it does need to have some power behind it to really open up. It cuts out all the superficial fancy elements while retaining plenty of useful features and support for streaming services. Crucially, sound quality is strong too. Bass is impressive with the volume raised and balance is solid, making this speaker very easy to recommend to those on a tight budget.

Jam Audio is fast becoming one of the most interesting lower-cost speaker companies on the market. The Jam Rhythm is a great speaker for those who just can’t justify the expense of a Sonos Play:1. Only a synthetic edge to the mid-range betrays the perhaps humble quality of the hardware, but I’ve heard far more expensive speakers suffer from similar issues.
