We then skip forward in time, Max and Annie have married…and divorced, separated from each other for more than a year they are still drawn to each other like moths to a flame. Old enmities persist, the Delaneys want Max to pay for times past. Smashed nightclubs, old mates dead, witnesses drowned. Who is on whose side? The elephant in the corner is the change of narrator for this last book, it was not a good move for my shell-likes, especially when there was so much conversation calling for accent interpretation. Okay moving on, let's talk about the book: Inferno' Takes on the World Series as 'Doctor Strange' Debuts Overseas". Box Office Mojo. Archived from the original on 2018-06-18 . Retrieved 2020-04-17. Brilliant . . . Child never, ever slips. He keeps the action cranking better than anyone, but, best of all, he keeps us guessing about Reacher." -- Booklist (starred review)

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs. As a lover of crime fiction, it’s perfectly believable that an amateur finds herself knee deep in intrigue. In some mysteries, it’s uncanny (and unrealistic) how suddenly an amateur gets embroiled in yet another murder investigation. But, one argues, some crime must be discovered by amateurs. In real life, how would this work? The pace is blistering, confident, controlled. The mystery good and complex with lots of players. There's very good humour and snappy dialogue throughout. Child really is on a roll here! There's none of the over-detailed exposition that mars so many Reacher books. In fact, there are far more memorable quotes in this book than almost any other Reacher. Emal Golam Zadran is a family failure who managed to get caught at just the right time. For himself. Emily is a talented hook...er, actress, who helps them out.The cover is pretty with its turquoise waters and yellow highlights as a drop of water disturbs the reflection of the Senate building in the waters of the Potomac. Although this is easy on the eye, and there are a lot of plot twists and turns, it's really hard to work out why exactly this whole book is happening - there doesn't seem to be a real crime, and there certainly doesn't appear to be any reason why anybody is running around (let alone two Septuagenarian amateur detectives/ spivs) looking for anyone, nor why anyone else would want to be bumping these people off. Reacher is there to meet--in person--the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone. Without introducing spoilers, Lee Child introduced certain plot elements and characterizations in this novel that are quite different from previous novels, elements that could have moved this series into another realm, into something that would cause us to eat another 18 books like pop corn. He didn't do that. He relied, I'm guessing because of writer's fatigue, on his old formula. I'm thinking if L. Child is tired of writing Reacher novels, he could have ended the series beautifully with this novel. Or, if not tired, by taking a leap forwards, he could have transformed Reacher, given us the core reason why he is alone...why he discards human relationships, and in a way forced him to abandon that and bring us into more novels where he might struggle with his former life while living a new existence. I love how Reacher pulls it together. Tiny details that don’t escape his notice. Details that add up to some mighty big questions.

Look this is a good story. There are still the logical inconsistencies that plague this series for me but I suppose that I've read so many now that I've beefed up my suspension of disbelief muscles. If you like good fast moving action thrillers this will probably not disappoint. What's even more damning about this book is as I reached the (non!) end - where nothing really happens, strangely enough..... - I had the feeling that I may actually have read this before - but I barely remembered a thing about it. Which has a scarily weird tie in with one of the very confused plot lines..... But can we puhlease? *sighs* Coz, I. Was. Fascinated!! Stiletto knives… *shivers*. I know my friends won’t be surprised in the least *snorts*. Oh, oh, I love it. Morgan’s recalling Reacher is gonna bite him bad, and I love that Reacher takes full advantage. Lord knows someone has to take the reins!During the war, Harry and his fellow RAF conscripts spent three months in a Scottish castle where they acted as guinea pigs in a psychological experiment. The reunion is to take place in the same castle. It will be a chance to see friends, settle old scores and lay a few ghosts to rest. FilmL.A. (May 2017). "2016 Feature Film Study" (PDF). FilmL.A. Reacher finally makes it to DC to meet the woman he talked with several books ago ("61 Hours") while he was being abused way out west. As usual, Reacher arrives just in time to drop deep, deep into the brown stuff. And as usual, he is soon in personal jeopardy, and as usual, his sense of justice rides to rescue Turner. x-Major Reacher of the 110th CO of MP (Commanding Officer/Military Police), wants to meet his replacement Major Susan Turner CO/MP. When arriving Why is he accused of a soldier murder & a paternity suit that he is a father of a daughter, Samantha Dayton(15)? It’s pure Reacher after they throw him in jail. It’s not where he wants to be, and not where he wants Susan. So, just like that...they’re gone.

Okay, don't get too excited now. According to Child, Reacher is 6' 5" and about 250 lbs of hard muscle. This is what that might look like.

This time we follow, the now close to 70, Harry on a wartime reunion on a Scottish castle, unfortunately the first of his old RAF pals are killed even before they reach the castle and it only gets worse from thereon, it's a little like visiting Barnaby in Midsomer, people dropping left and right. When Harry joins up with the evasive and les that honest Barry Chipchase the story turns in to a race against time, can they find the murder before they are killed, or charged with the murders themselves. waves hand* No need to dwell on the fact it’s my first JK read. I will fix that egregious error as soon as I can finagle my TBR as I need more of this world. The party begins on the train up to Aberdeen, until the apparent suicide of one of their number shatters the holiday atmosphere. Their arrival in Scotland seems under a cloud, and when another comrade dies soon after their arrival, Harry is gripped by a sense of foreboding. As well, the recollections of the old comrades of their time in the castle are frighteningly different, and unexplained events from 1955 still haunt them. As Harry tries to solve the mystery of what really happened fifty years ago, he uncovers an extraordinary secret that convinces him he will never leave the castle alive. Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces—and makes him question who he is, what he’s done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road. Reacher, Turner, Espin and a team of MPs, acting on information from Prudhomme, intercept a shipment of weapons due to enter the country, where they confront Harkness and his men. Espin finds antitank weapons, as declared in the flight manifest. They also learn that Harkness framed Turner, who had been investigating his activities, for the murders of the two soldiers who had discovered that Harkness was selling weapons to insurgents and smuggling opium into the US.

She took her first sip of coffee, slow and contemplative. She said, ‘... And that’s the problem, right there. That’s what’s making me uncomfortable. I’m just like you. Except not yet. And that’s the point. Looking at you is like looking into the future. You’re what I’m going to be one day. When I’m all sanded down too.... You scare me. Or the prospect of becoming you scares me. I’m not sure I’m ready for that. I’m not sure I ever will be.’ If you saw the movie first, don't worry. It's a good movie that diverges completely from this great book, pretty early on.I debated long and hard about whether to get this book, as I was running out of choices on the visit to the library. The story takes place in the present, but we see flashes of the past as Harry uncovers fragments of his memories. These lead him to question his fellow soldiers and their families. He doesn’t understand what he’s discovering, and he can’t quite believe it. The police don’t believe him either. For the pure pleasure of uncomplicated, nonstop action, no one touches Reacher, who accurately observes that “I trained myself...to turn fear into aggression.” Reacher is there to meet—in person—the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone. It tells the story of a group of RAF comrades from national service who meet up again at a reunion in a scottish castle, where they escaped punishment if they agreed to go on an education program from a series of minor crimes committed.
