About this deal

Alternatively, what about boots with natural fibre thread that went out in really wet weather and had dubbin applied to keep some water out? This (the dubbin) was a good thing, and better than soggy feet. Now because boots still get wet (even today), the stitching (being made of natural fibres and not as strong as synthetic) gradually suffered and weakened. Being put away damp from time to time didn't help- indeed the stitching might rot a bit. So when it fails, it stands to reason that it was the dubbin wot dun it. It is a common misconception that boots with a Gore-Tex membrane require less care, this is not the case. Leaving a Gore-Tex boot untreated will likely damage the boot. Gore-Tex boots should be cleaned and re-proofed regularly in accordance with the care instructions for the specific materials below.

Regularly treat them with a suitable waterproofing treatment applicable to the type of boots you have (See below). We would recommend re-proofing the boots whenever they get particularly dirty or when water stops beading (turning to droplets) on the surface of the boots.
