About this deal

The world of the turntable moves s-l-o-w-l-y. Turntables regularly outlive DJs. Panasonic has finally discontinued the Technics 1200/1210 series (the DJ standard turntables) after over 30 years of continuous production. Other manufacturers had to wait, get this, 25 years until the patent ran out on the motor design before they could imitate Technics and produce their own versions. The Pioneer PLX 1000 and ST.150 are both super OEM turntables, and that means both have super study motors. However, the Stanton has been there for years, meaning the performance and efficiency have been tried and tested. When it comes to finishing, pioneer seems to have perfected the art more. PROs & CONs Listing Because in short, with the STR8.150 Stanton has future-proofed the turntable. Whether in DJ booths being used for Serato or Traktor Scratch control, or at home to complete an all-media home DJ studio, this turntable takes up where Technics left off. As far as turntables go, the next 30 years could well turn out to be Stanton’s. Both models deliver exceptional audio quality, providing clear and accurate sound reproduction. The ST-150 MK2, with its improved motor isolation system and reinforced tonearm base, further enhances the overall audio performance by minimizing unwanted noise and vibrations, resulting in a cleaner and more detailed sound output.

Setting up and operating this device is easy. You need to place your record on the aluminum platter and press the start button. The file will play at three speeds (33, 45, and 78) and selected pitch controls at +/- 8%, 25%, 50%. This makes the turntable a great choice to play your vinyl records of any size. The Stanton ST.150 is arguably the best vinyl DJ turntable that consists of the best and world’s strongest torque motor. With quality and attractive design, the device produced by Stanton “a no-nonsense company,” is among the best quality and innovative digital and analog circuit turntables you’ll come across in the market. Most interesting for me is the revised layout, where the plethora of controls have been moved, rationalised, or done away with completely. One start/stop button has gone, and in its place is a 45 adaptor. As a right-handed scratcher, I will miss the power button under my thumb, but for Dicer owners, this is a great move. Slopped strobe light is good, a little dim on the top row of dots but nothing that should cause alarm In our review of the Stanton ST.150 MKII Turntable, it is very evident when you first see this model that it is designed to be ready to go to work. It has a very heavy-duty build weighing 28 pounds. The base is made of aluminum and has a low resonance.Switchable ground– If your mains grounding is good, the 3-wired plug that comes with the STR8.150 can ground the turntable to prevent buzz, without the need for a separate ground. If for whatever reason it isn’t, you can switch to chassis ground – although I couldn’t find a chassis ground pin for a ground lead. Whatever, there was no discernible buzz on the audio output for me in either setting. The flimsy ground lead was notorious for snapping off with Technics – can’t say I miss it You might be able to find an older used receiver with a built-in phono preamp. But, if you don't need the whole receiver the bulk might be an issue (Somebody gave me their old receiver when they upgraded to "home theater".) All in all I think this will be a good option for both the home and club/mobile DJ. The price is right and you can usually find them cheaper if you can barter with your choice of vendor. The new look is great, the tables perform very well and the sound is good. It’s a hanpin yes, but Stanton made some nice improvements over the previous model which are sure to bring a smile to your face. The tone arm is solid with no play at all and has all the usual suspects, height adjust, a tone arm lift lever and anti skate. If you go with the Str8 150’s you need not worry about the anti skate as it is useless with a straight arm Adjustable pitch range– Just like with digital DJ software, you can change the range the pitch fader works over, in this case from +/-8% (like Technics) to +/-25% (which is still possible to use for beat matching) all the way to +/-50%! Great fun for the creative DJ

Can’t argue with that – although I’d add, every “audiophile” turntable I’ve ever owned has had a straight tonearm, so the sound quality differences must be pretty academic. On the other hand, if you are starting out as a DJ or have a limited budget, the Stanton ST-150 MK1 remains a solid option. It provides a reliable and robust turntable experience with excellent build quality and good performance. The MK1 model has garnered a strong reputation among DJs over the years and continues to be a reliable choice for many. For the preamp, to me the biggest factor is noise. I could always hear some hum or hiss from my phono preamp (with the volume up). I don't worry too much about super-accurate RIAA equalization. I don't think it's too difficult to get +/- 1dB (or so) accuracy. The RIAA curves were originally designed with simple RC (analog) filters in mind. And, assuming your records are from the "vinyl age", they were produced with analog RIAA filters, and IMO a lot of older records need some additional EQ anyway (a little high-end boost). The Stanton ST.150 is a turntable that is designed for professional DJs and vinyl enthusiasts. It features a high-torque direct-drive motor which provides accurate and stable rotation for precise mixing and scratching. The turntable has adjustable pitch control, allowing DJs to fine-tune the speed of the platter for beatmatching.
