About this deal

He was born into an ancient, powerful dynasty and, through no fault of his own, became one of the most recognisable men on the planet. His life was a constant barrage of press intrusion and manipulation. Until, finally, he demanded that it stop," the synopsis says. Harry claims that he learned about Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's death in 2002 via a phone call while he was at Eton, but records show that he along with his father and brother were on vacation in Switzerland when the news broke out. [128] An acquaintance of Harry's father, who was with them on the ski trip, said Harry's account in the book was "rubbish" as he "was definitely in Klosters, he was here with the prince [his father]." [129] The rest was completely absurd fiction which possibly parallels with the actual autobiography (which I haven't read). The only other LOL moment was when the stint in the British armed forces involves him being put in a room and told that he is to accumulate bundles of data intelligence via a computer interface. The following description sounds like he then plays through a series of games of Tetris.

Harry mentions that both he and his brother had agreed on welcoming Charles's lover Camilla Parker Bowles into their family on the condition that their father did not marry her. [17] He alleges that Camilla "sacrificed" him "on her personal PR altar" to improve her own public image and leaked "minute details" of a conversation she had with William to the press. [29] He alleges that William "felt tremendous guilt" for not speaking up about their father's affair with Camilla, and he had "long harboured suspicions about the Other Woman." [30] He adds that William was left "confused" and "tormented" as a result of the affair. [30] Harry also says that Camilla had "played a role" in his mother's death because she had been "pivotal" in the disintegration of his parents' marriage. [29] He likened his first time meeting her to "getting an injection" and added Camilla was "bored," partly because Harry was not Charles's heir and could not be a threat to her desires for marrying his father. [29] Harry says that his father found happiness after marrying Camilla, and that he wanted both his father and Camilla to be happy, wondering if "she was less dangerous being happy." [29] Harry also states that Camilla turned his bedroom at Clarence House into her dressing room as soon as he left. [31] He also talks about Charles's experience at Gordonstoun, where Harry claims his father was bullied and "almost did not survive." [29] He discusses his father's attachment to his teddy bear, which helped him through Gordonstoun and remained one of his favourite objects as an adult, a representation of "the essential loneliness of his childhood." [29] I was speechless with horror… it was disgusting. That a trusted personage at the heart of the family should go outside and sell all the tawdry details at his disposal to the highest bidder - and then go on talk shows around the world to brag about it,” the fictional Harry said.

Spare by Prince Harry review – dry your eyes, mate

Diana had two sons, remember that when reading this story. I for one will always remember the heart-breaking image of Diana’s two sons walk behind their mother’s coffin. A life changing event for the boys she loved, which caused mental health issues for BOTH sons growing up, something they jointly opened up about and campaign for. Yet Harry does this publicly to William. I didn’t have a costume but at the last minute discovered a hire place near to the party venue,” the fictional Prince wrote. When questioned in an interview if the public can have faith in the monarchy following "allegations of fighting and betrayal at the top", UK prime minister Rishi Sunak responded "I think the public like me have enormous regard for the Royal Family, they're deeply proud of them... When I get to go around the world and champion Britain as an amazing country with so many things that we can be proud of, our institutions including the royal family are one of those." [108] Patti Davis, daughter of Nancy and Ronald Reagan, who had previously written a similar tell all book during her father's presidency, discouraged Harry, saying: "My justification in writing a book I now wish I hadn't written (…) was very similar to what I understand to be Harry's reasoning. I wanted to tell the truth, I wanted to set the record straight. Naïvely, I thought if I put my own feelings and my own truth out there for the world to read, my family might also come to understand me better." ‘Spare,’ by Prince Harry: Book Review - The New York Times

Harry condemns 'dangerous spin' on Taliban comments". BBC News. 11 January 2023. Archived from the original on 11 January 2023 . Retrieved 11 January 2023. It does parody specific moments in the original book, sometimes in quite an amusing and childish way (I do have a childish sense of humour, so this did not worry me in the slightest) but it did just suddenly stop, and you do wonder if an editor decided the final moments, which in the original covered the death of her Majesty, the Queen, were perhaps a little too much and too soon and removed them. There are moments when your heart breaks for Harry, like when as boy, he was convinced his mother hadn’t been killed, but that it was a public hoax so that she could start her life over somewhere. Or, when as a young man, he felt the need to go repeatedly through the tunnel in Paris at the same speed that killed Princess Diana. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards said: "It's better than the book that Harry wrote because I didn't enjoy that, seeing the way he rubbished some of the people that work hard for this country. I thought that was outrageous. Even their suffering is written as a misfortune to Harry. The detail of what those women have lost, what cost they have paid, and their (potentially? the book is unclear) continued harassment is lost to the reader, as it simply has not been included beyond what serves the author. Royal family gossip is not really of any importance, so here are the parts of the book which actually matter (and I don't consider these spoilers because they have been all over the news):
