About this deal

Smoke and Mirrors– A ploy that lets two of your fighters swap places anywhere on the board, so long as one is in a Cover Hex In the image below, the hex-shaped counters on the left are either gloom hex tokens, double-sided scatter tokens, or double-sided feature tokens. The silver and gold tokens in the top centre are glory point tokens. The square tokens on the right are Move/Charge tokens and Guard/Stagger tokens. The red counters and counters with gemstones on them are wound/generic counters. The little tokens with the Underworlds logo on them are activation tokens, and the final pile in the bottom-right corner are Raise tokens. A few notes, though. First, we realised in our final Round that neither of us had actually Delved on a single Objective hex. This left us feeling a bit bewildered, and concerned that we’d done something wrong. All that set-up with the various hexes and by the end of the game neither of us had used any of them for anything. It felt very weird. There’s also absolutely no real information on this in the Rulebook. The Rulebook explains the placement of Objective Hexes and how to “Delve” into a hex to reveal it, but doesn’t actually say what happens next.

Nethermaze is another faithful – albeit perhaps a little predictable – entry into the annals of Warhammer Underworlds history. Whilst on paper the contents of this box are very similar to those that have arrived in other Underworlds boxes of a similar price, there’s enough fresh and new stuff in here to keep Underworlds fans happy. There are two things in the wallet: the all-important rulebook as well as the assembly guide for the miniatures. The guide is only one sheet of A4 as the miniatures are push-fit, so super easy to put together. Rob has spent most of the last 15 years playing World of Warcraft and writing stories set in made-up worlds. At some point, he also managed to get a Master's degree by writing about Medieval zombies. The Warhammer Vault continues to grow with the addition of the lore sections from Imperial Armour: The Badab War – Part Two and White Dwarf issue 477. Slynk Skittershank, in particular, can amp up his speed to truly ridiculous levels with his exclusive Deathmaster upgrade – taking him to a remarkable six hexes.

Warhammer Underworlds Nethermaze models

Nethermaze comes with a whole host of goodies to really pimp up your gaming experience. We’ll have a look at the gaming boards, the tokens, the cards and the dice that come in the box in this section. Game Boards Zatu has an excellent range of games and for most of them the best prices too. Delivery is always fast and I have never received a game in bad condition. 10/10 would recommend. As ever, we’ll have a closer look at everything in more detail in a moment. Warhammer Underworlds: Nethermaze Review – Contents They’re also super badass on the tabletop, with a bit more melee punch than the Skaven, and a whole range of abilities and cards making use of the Cover Hexes, added to the game in Harrowdeep. These folks like to slink, hide, teleport, swap places, and generally get up to shenanigans using the shadows. Compared to the Warcry models, the Shadowborne don’t bring many new ideas, it’s really more of the same. Still, as a fan of anything with pointy ears I like the new models a lot. With only four models they are a nice little painting project, especially Slythael with her cloak and crystal weapons. Fun factor

It’s a deeper, darker, more forbidding area of the (already pretty deep, dark, and forbidding) region in which the current season of Underworlds is set in. Warhammer Underworlds: Nethermaze Review – What’s New

They really don’t scrimp on tokens in these Underworlds boxes. There are dozens of little cardboard circles, squares and hexes in the Nethermaze box, spread across two boards. Soulrender Elathain Ill-fated and his gaggle of companions – including the champion crustacean Duinclaw – head to the battlefields of the Mortal Realms. Elathain’s Soulraid is led by Elathain himself and joined by his sworn Ishlaen escort Fuirann, his Namarti thrall Tammael, and the bond-beasts Duinclaw and Spinefin. Hedkrakka’s Madmob The path to glory is tumultuous, littered with the betrayed and the broken. Khagra’s Ravagers are named after Khagra the Usurper, who – through duplicitous means – wrested control of the warband from her sister Zarshia. Talk about nominative determinism. Following these squabbling sisters are the brutal warriors Cragran and Razek. The Crimson Court Each warband provides its own painting challenge, with a hatful of highly-detailed miniatures to get creative with. The Warhammer TV painting team has come up with a collection of paints for each warband to help you get them ready to enter the Gnarlwood. We’ll have a closer look at everything in just a moment. Warhammer Underworlds: Nethermaze Review – Literature

Relive the Dark Imperium trilogy with this stunning collection, housed in a special slipcase. It contains the novels Dark Imperium , Dark Imperium: Plague War , and Dark Imperium: Godblight , and the short stories In the Grim Darkness , The Armour of Fate , and His Will . Agile and super-fast-moving, these insidious rat-men are laser focused on killing the enemy leader(s), with assorted ways to outmanoeuvre and/or Stagger and mob their foes, on the way to their true prize. Each round (which consists of four alternating “activations” between each player) is begun with a roll off. In round 1, Lizzie won roll off and began aggressively, having her character with a ranged weapon shoot at Skittershank and deal him a single wound. In her part of the subsequent Power phase, she played a couple of Gambits to help keep her Aelves safe from the skittering Skaven. Many more classic Warhammer Underworlds warbands are being rereleased for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. These are only available from the Games Workshop webstore, so you won’t see them in shops, and they won’t come with any of their cards for Warhammer Underworlds. Elathain’s Soulraid Smoke-wreathed, ethereal, dark, and deadly, aelven warband The Shadebornis clearly meant to exemplify the gloomy, threatening aura of Nethermaze’s undersea setting. Meanwhile, sports fans can enjoy Blitz Bowl Ultimate Edition , a smaller six-a-side version of Blood Bowl. The Khainite Shadowstalkers are Morathi’s secret operatives and thus fit very well with the assassin vs assassin theme of Nethermaze. This faction was first introduced in Warcry, and I am very curious to see if they will also be included in the next Daughters of Khaine Battletome.
