I must admit that I from the start have been really impressed with the HD 660S2’s performance. It’s so easy to listen to and with its excellent comfort, I can easily use it for 7h a day and more. The HD 660S2 also is a do-it-all headphone in my opinion. I of course mostly use it to listen to music, but also for videocalls straight from my laptop. Even watching tv and Netflix is a pure pleasure with this set, as is sounds so natural, effortless, and unfatiguing. The transition to the treble is more smooth than the 650 and the S2 avoids the upper treble peak that many people found as irritating and harsh sounding.This is a treble of the highest quality and fidelity, the S2 sounds airy, crisp, crystal clear and ultimately transparent. The Sennheiser HD660S2 features a new 300Ω driver with a sensitivity of 104dB(1V), almost the same as the HD650 (103dB), so it is really not that difficult to drive as long as you have an amplifier capable of providing a good voltage swing. The hanger arrangement is good, so despite a fair amount of clamping force the 260g HD 660S2 are easy to position comfortably and will stay that way for hours on end. The velour earpads resist returning your own body heat for a good while, too, which helps where comfort is concerned.

The HD660S2 is essentially a new variation on the same theme and while this might not sound very exciting we better remember that in music sometimes the variations are actually of higher artistic quality than the original theme. The surround is now more compliant, too, dropping the resonant frequency to 70 Hz. Considerable effort also went into optimizing the airflow around the transducer. There’s more sensitivity over the entire frequency spectrum because the magnet´s air gap works more efficiently now. Let me rephrase my statement from before, since the earpads and headband pads are the same as any other Sennheiser 6 line, these parts are absolutely modular and I have no issues finding them anywhere else on the market.
