About this deal

She often shared about her faith in Christ and the importance of it. Quoting from a book titled “The Servant Queen and the King she serves”, she once said: “I know just how much I rely on my faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning. I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God. I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian Gospel.”

This is a refreshing read of the life and faith of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Regardless of your views of politicians and royalty, this book uncovers in Her Majesty, a consistent life which is evidence of an unmovable belief in the God of the Bible. This beautifully-illustrated short book uses the Queen’s own words to describe her faith in God, offering us all an inspiration. Her Majesty The Queen has rightly been globally praised for doing an outstanding job since she came to the throne at the age of 25. And for 70 years she’s done her work as Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, and Supreme Governor of the Church of England with amazing diligence, great grace, astute intelligence, deep humility, and tremendous effectiveness. The book is being published to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, in April. In her comments, the Queen referred to the changes she has seen in her life, which has made her the longest-reigning monarch in British history: I know just how much I rely on my faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning. I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings and to put my trust in God … I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian gospel,” she said in 2002.

Indeed, one of the reasons she is so admired by people of other faiths is precisely because she is a person of sincere faith herself and understands the role that living faith plays in people’s lives. As head of the Church of England, she sees that it ‘has a duty to protect the free practice of all faiths in this country’ (Lambeth Palace, 2012). Again, this is rooted in Christ’s example: This is the time of year when we remember that God sent his only son “to serve, not to be served”. He restored love and service to the centre of our lives in the person of Jesus Christ.’ (2012) Bible Society, HOPE, LICC and Scripture Union are encouraging churches to bring communities together to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with Thanksgiving services and street parties on Sunday 12 June – giving the book away as a gift to party guests. The Servant Queen The Queen turns 90 in 2016, and a new book which chronicles her faith could be a great catalyst for conversation, writes Beth Gaukroger

When she came to the throne, the Commonwealth consisted of eight nations. Today, 54 nations and territories, almost all former colonies, are members. How do you turn nations that your own country has conquered, ruled, and exploited for decades into friends? It’s no secret that the Queen’s faith in Jesus Christ is of central importance to her. But very little has been written about the particular character of her Christian commitment, or how it has fuelled her vision for her role, the nation, and the Commonwealth. Indeed, as the years have gone by, the Queen has focused more explicitly on how Christ offers hope. It is not just that he is the light of the world but that the light points to particular ways of living. In 1972, as the conflict in Northern Ireland continued to maim and kill, she spoke clearly about her own yearning and hope: ‘Christ taught love and charity and that we should show humanity and compassion at all times and in all situations.’ The Queen has served us all her adult life. From 10th-12th June 2016 the country and the Commonwealth will celebrate her 90th birthday. It is a chance to say thank you. There is little argument the Queen has lived to serve. She has not inundated with flamboyant, long-winded speeches. Instead her words have been disciplined but appropriate. In short succinct messages the Queen communicates memorably and effectively.
