From Lukov with Love didn’t end up amongst my favorites by Mariana Zapata, but I still enjoyed it. Partially because- again, it was very soothing and relaxing. And partially because I really loved the characters. Cool. I’m gonna go cry in the corner and watch ice-skating videos, knowing that Ivan Lukov (or any other MZ hero) will never exist, and I’ll never be his meatball. BYYEEEEEEEEE. the relationship development with Jasmine and Ivan was so raw and realistic. the mere fact that their love language is to insult one another had me banging my head against the wall 😭💖✨ they and so funny and i love them so much! i didn’t know what to expect and at times i thought they’d just be good friends if anything. i was mentally preparing myself for that tbh. but alas we had that epic epilogue that brought happy tears to my eyes. there’s nothing i love more than a strong female whose only weakness is her other half. good half 🫠 I know many people complain that Zapata’s books are too long and too slow for them. I usually strongly disagree, but this was the first time I thought they may have a point. I dunno there's just something about romance books where the main characters have good witty funny banter.

Jasmine is a person who had to go through a lot of injuries in her career. She has reached an age considered the last phase for people in figure skating. Some of y’all don’t like a slow-burn book BUT LISTEN, I DO, I’M A SLOW-BURN GIRLIE AND I WILL BE TILL THE DAY I DIE. I heard that’s how Mariana Zapata writes usually, and tbh, just give me more!

Initial Thoughts

Books by Mariana Zapata are not for everyone. If you love one of her books, there is a high chance that you will love most of her works. If you hated her one work, the chance of loving any of her books is very rare. It might be because most of her books are slow-burn romances, including this one. both jasmine and lukov were just really immature icl. i just didn't like either one of them much, and while there were moments i tolerated jasmine she was also... very annoying

Well, Mariana Zapata’s novel From Lukov with Love has a little more introspection, a stronger relationship to reality, and healthier (learned) coping mechanisms, but the concept is the same. Enemies-to-friends-to-lovers. Slow burn. Patience and understanding. Attitude and perfectionism. Tension (lots of tension) thawing into romance. These books have garnered a dedicated fanbase in the romance genre due to their relatable characters and realistic, gradual development of romantic relationships. Don’t get me wrong – it took me about two chapters to get used to it and to stop noticing the difference all that much. All I’m saying is – if you have a chance to listen From Lukov with Love on audio, listen to it on audio. Jasmine Santos (26) and Ivan Lukov (29) are pretty much one of my favourite characters of all time. I love them on their own and I love them together. They were so perfect for each other - they matched each other in wit, determination, and passion on and off the ice. Their development from enemies to friends, and ultimately, to lovers is definitely one of the best I’ve ever read. Their slow-burn romance had me on the edge of my seat, squealing and waiting for their first kiss. But as it is with slow burns, the ending is always worth the wait!
