About this deal

Ethics statement: the following is based on our experience with the A7S II and official information about the A7S III. For example, the A7S III's maximum buffer when burst shooting is only available with CFexpress Type A cards. That being said, the A7s II remains a reference when it comes to low light performance, and this is why it is used worldwide for many productions, including the recent BBC Planet Earth and Blue Planet II.

The A7S III also gets all the latest technology that Sony introduced on its E-mount cameras over the last couple of years: Real Time Tracking, Eye AF for animals and Eye AF for video (humans only). With the electronic first curtain, it's only slightly louder than the A6000, and still a more discreet package than most DSLRs. From your gear list a small star tracker might offer a good start into astrophotography (take a look at iOptron, Vixen Polarie and Astrotrack just to get an idea).

Sony is famous for having a color science that is hard to work with, skin tones can appear magenta and slightly wrong. As you'd expect given the years since the arrival of the Sony A7S II, the A7S III brings a number of improvements. However, there are also plenty of differences between the two models, especially in terms of camera and imaging features. One thing that is way more obvious to see on the A7S III in those absurdly high ISOs is that the A7S III uses a lot more noise reduction in high ISOs and the results are very apparent in the image. It is also worth remembering that you can find the A7s II second-hand more easily because of its age.

They still have their focus on ISO performance here which is beautiful, one of the main reasons the original camera was amazing. The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro might not come with the most impressive camera hardware we have seen, but Google's software power and tuning excellence help its new flagship smartphones produce among the very best image quality we have seen on mobile devices. When I was young, I spent thousands of dollars on cameras, and the 35mm I went with was a Canon EF and later added a Ftb, plus Canon lenses, 24 2. With an autofocusing system that's twice as fast at movie shooting, the α7S II can clearly capture even moving action with unerring accuracy, efficiency and smoothness. An 8-bit camera like the A7S II may still be fine for your needs, and it's also worth bearing in mind that there are more affordable 10-bit cameras (albeit with smaller sensors) than the A7S III, such as the Panasonic GH5. The reason this is a slightly surprise upgrade is because an EVF is generally more of a priority for stills shooters, and the A7S III is very much a video-first camera. So what should I do if I want to spend about this amount of money for my new camera, and it does'nt matter if it's APS-C or FF - which one should I take?

Eventually, I'll likely add a long tele to my kit (400-600, or maybe the 2x converter for the 70-200). In full frame mode however the Sony a7R II gives us acceptable results that are comparable to the quality of the original a7S and are very similar to the image of the Sony a7S II. But still, with everything there is a limit and the limit for both cameras appears to be 25,600 ISO for a linear profile and 80,000 ISO for a log profile. Besides, their continuous shooting speed is 5 frames per second, enabling them to take proper shots of any fast-moving objects or instant moments. According to Sony's test figures, it improves the A7S III's stamina by 60% compared to the A7S II, with 95 minutes of video recording via the LCD (compared to 60 minutes on the A7S II) and 600 shots per charge (up from 370 frames on its predecessor).Last night when I was taking photos of the moon through my 11 inch telescope I was very disappointed in the blur I was getting from the camera.
