I used DX body D5200 with Nikon 55-300 it is good but i want to shift on full frame like D750 with Tamron 150-600…plz suggest it is suitable for polo …. SummaryThe Sigma 150-500 OS is a good long tele-zoom - indeed it's the least costly way to get a zoom reaching 500mm at f6. Pentax don't currently offer any lenses approaching 500mm, with their longest lens currently being a 300mm f/4, so this lens may be of particular interest to Pentax users. Users considering this lens may be wary of the quirks this kind of lens has such as donut-shaped out of focus highlights, plus the f/8 aperture may be limiting when the light isn't at its best. Repeatability (the accuracy of focus on the same subject after repeated focus-acquisition) of the Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.

The other lenses in this comparison achieve their maximum magnification at their longest focal length: This is 1:5 at around 2. The Tamron 150-500 is 1499 EUR / 1399 USD / 1379 GBP, the Sony 200-600 is 1670 EUR / 2000 USD / 1500 GBP. But there is still some definition of fine detail even fully open in the corners although everything is covered in a haze. A change (decrease) in effective focal length is also pretty common when a telephoto zoom is close focused.DG DN OS is a pretty complex design with 24 elements in 16 groups including 4 special dispersion elements and 3 aspherical elements plus improved anti-reflective coating using nanotechnology. Setting ‘1’ provides both vertical and horizontal corrections, whereas the ‘2’ setting only has vertical corrections. I won't attempt to reproduce all the images here, but I'll give my overall conclusions and a few samples. This may be more a characteristic of the camera's autofocus mechanism than any problem with the Sigma. initial trials shooting Gannets in New Zealand were very disapointing and a Nikkor 80-200 on a d300 (even with a TC) just blow it away, although I will concede that the lens does seem to perform reasonably well from 150-300.

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM review - Trusted Reviews

This is obviously a design trade-off: the tripod platform has been generously sized and shaped to provide a comfortable grip. Having an FX full frame means I really want good performance at 500mm to make up for the lack of a DX crop factor.

As luck would have it, I was able to borrow a recently purchased Sigma 150-500mm OS from a friend and this article captures some initial thoughts about photographing birds, including those in flight, with this lens. Center sharpness wide-open is good up to 300mm but above that sharpness progressively falls away with the longer focal lengths. In fact if we look above at the sharpness map of the Sony mount version on the Sony SLT A-77 (above), we can see the performance is essentially identical. IT can get heavy and I need a mono pod to use it, but I can still take some photos without it, but not suggested.

With optical stabilization they can be handheld and with higher ISO setting becoming available on more cameras, the fact that they may be 1 or 2 stops slower than a prime lens is less important than it used to be. They want a ‘no hassle’ experience that enables them to capture some new and different images and have a lot of fun along the way. DG OS HSM is a stabilized super-telephoto zoom lens; indeed it’s one of only two stabilized telephoto zoom lenses reaching 500mm focal length, the other being Sigma’s own 50-500mm 4. As usual I’ve rated the features with a [+] (or [++]), when it’s better than average or even state of the art, a [0] if it’s standard or just average, and [-] if there’s a disadvantage.Open aperture performance of the Pentax at 300mm is impressive (and well ahead of the Sigma at the same setting), but both suffer loss of sharpness in the outer field. I would say find someone who has owned both lenses and/or reviews and/or sites like pixel peeper which allow you to look at full resolution real world pics. It did take some time to develop a technique for carrying and handholding the lense/camera combination, which weighs 2. Although I would love to own the Sport version, the Contemporary is the only one that I can manage to afford.

We Nikon and Canon mirrorless photographers will have to wait our turn to have thisl ens available for us. The Sigma 150-600 HSM Sports and the Tamron 150-600 has the usual direct coupling and linear gearing of a lens designed for DSLRs and the Sony 200-600 also offers linear response for MF. Weighing 1780g, many who've not used a large super-telephoto like this before may find hand-holding for long periods tiring.Shooting the moon with the 80-400 was not a success for me, and it didn't help that Nikon serviced it (they found it 'all was within limits'). At 200mm image quality is very similar to that at 150mm with very good sharpness and negligible chromatic aberration. My Nikon 80-400mm G that replaced the Sigma 150-500 was a goodbit sharper at the longer end than the Sigma 150-500. If any Photography Life readers have ever tried to capture a swallow in flight over water…you know exactly how challenging that can be.
