About this deal

Here is a quick description and cover image of book Someone I Used to Know written by Paige Toon which was published in June 24, 2021.

Someone I Used to Know | Book by Paige Toon | Official

Paige Toon remains one of my all-time favorite authors and I already can’t wait for her next release. The overall genre would be a contemporary romance; however the novel delves into many concepts, particularly around foster families and healing hearts. So, not only did Jamie read out all the messages sent by those who couldn’t make it – something that surely should have been my responsibility – but I wasn’t here.

We at Penguin Random House Australia acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Custodians and the first storytellers of the lands on which we live and work.

I’m a little late to the Paige Toon bandwagon, but after picking up her 2021 release Someone I Used To Know, I’ll certainly be making up for lost time and seeking out her backlist. This is a heartbreaking read in many ways, and one that highlights the sheer importance of what people like Leah's parents do. Broke my heart, pieced it back together and made it soar…And I absolutely didn’t see that twist coming. Despite their troubles, Leah and George forge a bond that will be strained at times but also supportive. And then there’s George, who left a scar on my heart that still takes me by surprise, considering the relatively short time I knew him.

Someone I Used to Know by Paige Toon | Goodreads

Overall: I can already tell this will be one of my top reads of the year; I very much recommend this fantastic novel. Fostering isn't easy, and neither is being a foster kid, and author Paige Toon does not shy away from showing this to the reader. Theo's wealthy family have mysteriously pulled him out of boarding school and he's now enrolled at the local state school with Leah and George. The change between past and present means you truly understand the relationship between Theo, George and Leah. Dad is head down and deep in conversation with some of his fellow stallholders from Masham market, his hair now entirely white and as wild as ever.

George the latest to be added to her parents brood of fostered teens, Theo expelled from his third exclusive boarding college and doing penance by attending the local secondary school. She has written fifteen novels, a three-part spin-off for young adults and a collection of short stories.
