About this deal

I like the original bumbu, this has a few similar characteristics but is more straightforward and honest than its spiced flagship sister.

As permitted by Venezuelan law, there is some sugar added to the rum during aging, but the sweetness complements a palate full of banana, oak, and vanilla. Renegade, founded by Waterford Whisky’s Mark Reynier, makes rum in the style of rhum agricole by using sugarcane juice instead of molasses. I rate it 8 because i think it's really beautiful drink, but i don't know yet is there something a lot better. This extra aging results in a more intense flavor, with deeper and richer notes of wood, spice and dried fruit. This special release is distilled and aged in Panama, where we created a truly unique – and unquestionably superior – rum.Zacapa XO is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks and pairs beautifully with dark chocolate and desserts. Xo, the mysterious three-letter acronym that has been appearing on rum labels across the world is not as enigmatic as it might appear.

The distillery released several pre-cask expressions of unaged rums, each focused on the terroir of a specific farm that the cane was harvested from (some barrel-aged versions are on the way as well). The 4-year aging process of VSOP cognacs results in a product that is less complex, with fewer nuances and aromas. I read good review after good review for this rum and I have to say it doesn't live up to my hIgh expectations. That also means diehard Bumbu Rum fans might be disappointed by this XO version simply because it lacks that characteristic sweetness.Two new cask-finished expressions were released last spring, rums that were given secondary maturation periods in port and zinfandel wine barrels. Even more recent is Terroir Volcanique, a blend of three-year-old rums aged in new American oak barrels toasted to custom levels that is meant to highlight the terroir where the rhum is made. A smooth, rich and complex rum created from scratch by our master distiller, our XO is aged in bourbon barrels and selectively finished in white oak sherry casks to achieve a beautifully balanced, endlessly sippable rum.

Soon, for the second time in his career, he was overthrown – the New South Wales Corps deposed him rather than give up their rum business. Diplomático is produced in Venezuela from molasses and sugarcane honey, which the distillery describes as “the syrup left over after the first boiling of sugarcane,” with a higher sugar content than molasses.

Poured over a large ice cube, the spicy flavors of Bumbu XO are muted creating a better balance of flavors. The nose has lots of the expected caramel and dried spices, but there’s a surprising youth here that comes across as grassy and overtly herbal.
